lol you guys.. Most musicians I know couldn't even tell you what an FM synth is, let alone care. Glad you get my point ;)

If they want dead simple, and they aren't knowledgeable about synthesis or recording, GarageBand is actually a great start. GarageBand even has MPE support if they know what that is...

Soundtrap is free and also good for getting started and great for collaboration.
