Rack Zoom Out Feature Request

Have any feature requests? No promise they'll get to Reason Studios, but you can still discuss them here.

I'd like to be able to zoom out the rack window. Similar to the effect of taking a step back in the studio to see the entire wall of gear.

Clicking anywhere on the rack once to establish window priority. Then using a shortcut key that allows zooming in on 1 device or zooming out to the entire project. Similar to how the sequencer window zoom feature works.

Thanks

+1
It'd be nice if this could be somehow accessible while dragging a cable, so you could more quickly get to a distant input/output somewhere :)

(I know, I know, you can use the right-click menu to do that, but that menu of every input/output in your project is a whole maze to navigate in and of itself.)

Navigation and enhanced rack building. Music goes hand in hand with organization.

In reason 5 we could only build racks vertically. Later on the rack was updated allowing for horizontal expansion. My experience improved tremendously after being able to split columns according to arrangement (drums, bass, leads, vocals). My sends are exclusively all in the first left rack slot, split by Remarks(thanks selig).

Zoom out of the sequencer and you'll get the big picture of a songs structure. Why shouldn't that apply for the engineering done in the rack?

I understand that the mini previewer on the right hand side of the rack is a feature to improve navigation in the rack.

There is one for the sequencer as well but I find myself using the shortcuts control and control +shift to zoom out, pinpoint what I need and get to it with a click zoom.

Applying the same concept for the rack would be something I'd be interested in taking the rack to the next level of utility.

I was going to mention this.

If you make the Rack Navigator as large as it can go, it will leave you with precisely one rack width in the regular view, and the rest as the Navigator, which can be handy. The rack devices in the Navigator get larger as you make that section larger, but only but so large though...

And when at that max width, it will also make the device/rack column that is selected snap to center (and the Navigator will also snap to the device, and not linger in the middle). Actually kind of slick.

I have 'Show Navigators' assigned to a simple shortcut key of just 'N' via macOS System Preferences.

Of course, I agree that it would be great to be able to zoom out. It would be handy for those times selecting and moving devices. I find that by very old habit I still often work within one rack column to start, and then as I begin the mixing stage of a song, I then start moving things to their own rack columns...

The way you use the shortcut for "show navigations" is very intuitive. Thanks for the video example. It's close to the idea I had, but more like a mini map rather than the the full picture.

You know how in MOBA's you can move the the screen by forcing the cursor towards the sides of the screen. I thought of the rack being interactive in a similar sense.

I'd like to incorporate your workflow into my sessions. Do you have any recommendations for a way to do this on Windows without having to much worry with having to run external apps?

I hope more keyboard shortcuts get added in the future.

Yeah I wish there was a way to easily add shortcuts for apps on Windows. It's very straight forward on macOS, and then once you do it, the shortcut appears there next to the command in the app's menus just like others. And of course, it then allows you to change existing shortcuts as well.

Here I've added a much needed shortcut for 'Reset Device'...and it intuitively appears the same in the Reason menu. But also notice how I decided to change the shortcut for 'Create Effect' (which I never use) to free up ⌘F for full screen mode. Pretty handy.

Surely there will be something built into Windows soon. Maybe folks haven't raised enough of a fuss about it with Microsoft?

I'd like to be able to zoom in and out of the rack view. Scalable gfx ftw.

I was referring to Pheads adding in more keyboard shortcuts.

I hate to compare to other DAW's, but pro tools, studio one, and reaper have many more shortcuts. Reaper even going so far as to let the user change and assign any key to any function.

Pheads like to focus you on 1 way of doing things. There is a lack of customization in the keyboard shortcuts department.

It would be cool if windows had a program to compliment that shortfall in reason, but I don't think it's on them nor Apple to implement it. The responsibility falls on Pheads.

Show Navigators is a really cool function that makes rack use easier. Why isn't there a key associated with it or at least a way to edit a key for it? They made a cool function that takes 2 clicks Options>Show Navigators to do something that should just be 1 click or 1 keyboard press.

That makes me think that shortcut editing and customization should be looked at a bit further.

Well on Apple it's simply not necessary, but I get your point. Maybe they could at least add a shortcut for Navigators for those on Windows.
