sorry guys for you making a drama about it. it wrote too fast.
to be clear: i'm talking about 144 frames per second to get the smooth smoothness of my 144hz monitors.
that's it. not that hard

I think Reason is currently limited to 30fps - and it shows in the spectrum analyzer as well as in the rack. Especially now that we have VST's that aren't limited in framerate. A jump to 60 would be a step in the right direction.
If you set your monitor to 144hz then Reason will also update at that rate. So you will get the benefit of smoother text and graphics. The exceptions will be any animations like cable animations, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes etc etc those will update at a lower rate to give priority to Audio threads.Nocturn789 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2018sorry guys for you making a drama about it. it wrote too fast.

Running an analyser at a full 144 FPS could use up a good chunk of GPU power which is no good for those of us who work with laptops, because it uses more battery and can lead to heat issues or even throttling. I know it’s not a problem for desktop users with beefy cooling solutions, but a lot of producers use laptops these days. And a majority of PC users run on Intel integrated graphics which are rubbish.

Underlying this is a big architectural sticking point with Reason as it stands today: It uses its own software renderer that dates back to MacOS 9 and Windows 98. Using modern hardware rendering solutions (Metal on MacOS and DirectX on Windows) would be a night-and-day change to the feel of using Reason, as well as not pegging your DSP when you scroll. However, it would be a huge engineering undertaking, probably on the order of building Grain or Europa, all for something that's much harder to explain and show off than new tentpole features.

It's exactly these things like spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes and stuff like that I'd like to work with on higher fps.miscend wrote: ↑22 Feb 2018If you set your monitor to 144hz then Reason will also update at that rate. Speaking for me, i had no problem with higher GPU usage. I just upgraded my setup with a killer machine of a computer. So maybe an additional dropdown field for fps in the general preferences could make everybody happy i guess.miscend wrote: ↑22 Feb 2018Running an analyser at a full 144 FPS could use up a good chunk of GPU power which is no good for those of us who work with laptops, because it uses more battery and can lead to heat issues or even throttling.
