You're right, of course. It was an experiment how far you could transform it from the usual piano sounds. If anybody is interested here are the patches I made (based off from the included "Haunted" patch):

It's not wavetable, but this is a good direction where to go Now it should be more obvious based on this hint

One more example and focus on the articulation of the sound, especially high pitched notes . Ordinary subtractive synth can't sound like this

It' got to be Malstrom, with effects of course. Graintable weirdness.

But the "graintable" is even more close to the method how it produces the sound
