The Dalina String Ensemble Song Competition:
SongCompetition.jpg
The Dalina String Ensemble is a synthesizer string ensemble modeled after a Solina String Ensemble at the studio. Build in 1974, manufactured by the firm Eminent at Bodegraven, The Netherlands. The synthesizer is combined with an acoustic symphonic orchestra section recorded by Leonard Ludvigsen.

The back panel provides CV inputs. The Rack Extension comes with 39 patches. 9 off them require Reason 12 installed.

Wish you all good luck and fun,

/Ed Gool

Unusually enough for me, I am the first to post my own entry.

I wouldn't know how to describe the piece, I just know that it was fun to write :) I was surprised by the quality of Dalina's samples and the ease with which they fit into the various parts of the song. I love the realistic but-not-too-realistic feel, with that retro flavour that reminds me a bit of ELO.

All the orchestral parts (strings spiccato, sustain, pizzicato) are by Dalina, as well as the horn section and the main synth 'best of both worlds' which, in my opinion, is worth the RE purchase alone.

I look forward to hearing the tracks of the other participants!

Thanks to Oenkenstein and the RT staff for the competition!

Here's my entry.
I didn't have any plans going into writing music for this competition. Apparently it became a metal song. All note generated sounds come from Dalina, but as you can probably tell I've used a lot of effects on many sounds. Still I think it's interesting to see how an instrument can work together with particular effect devices.
7 instances of Dalina were used.

Mine is a synthwave track. 5 instances of Dalina with lots of stock effects and drums from drum supply.

Very good entries so far. Each one has it's own character

Wow what fantastic songs, each and every one of them and so varied styles. Really shows the rack extensions versatility.

Wish you all the best of luck and don't envy the judges having to make such a difficult decision.

~~ Contest reopened for 24 hours! ~~

NEW COUNTDOWN TIMER
https://countingdownto.com/?c=4448915

It has been brought to my attention that there was an error in the deadline. We posted two different times for the deadline (00:00 and 23:59 on Dec 6). So in lieu of these facts, we have decided to open the contest back up for another 24 hours. This should allow enough time for anyone who thought they had another 24 hours to finish their song.

Thanks for understanding and sorry for the error.

There's some amazing tracks there, well done everyone!

I haven't uploaded a song anywhere since the UJAM bass guitar competition many years ago, and didn't think I'd get time to enter this one. But an expected COVID infection left me isolated in my bedroom for a day with my laptop, so I thought I'd spend the time trying to create a track.

I was definitely a bit rusty, and would change a lot now that a week has passed and I've been able to listen with fresh ears! Still, it was fun to play around with Dalina and have some motivation to publish some music despite not being happy with it. All part of the learning process I guess!

I am totally overwhelded by the high quality of all the tracks submitted.

It took me two days to recover from hearing Carly PoohBear's Koyaanisqatsi cinematic filmscore video. Holy Mo.
Quarmat 80's happy funk with awesome chords changes and an unexpected end... but wait, here we go again :-)
TritoneAddiction who turned Dalina's into heavy metal Gibson Explorers, showcasing that effects can change the sound drastacilly.
Alteree singing D.A.L.I.N.A. it's in our D.N.A. in the French Air style.
The 70's electronic arpy pop song from Gavin.
Two shadow tracks. One by Noise Shadow with a cinematic electronic bigbeat and one by Rare Shadow with a typical synthwave song and AlienXXX's track is a ride through Dalina Jazz land with an instrument stop at every station.

All tracks showcase the Dalina very well and did you notice the great drum parts in all the tracks?

Now it's time to give away the prizes:
1. Carly PoohBear, you are entitled to choose three Rack Extensions from all the products made by Oenkenstein Audio.
2. Quarmat gets a free license for the Dalina String Ensemble Rack Extension and another free license for a product of his choice.
3. Alteree gets a free license for the Dalina String Ensemble Rack Extension.

In order to give the free licenses for the products won, please PM me your Reason Studios username and a list of the preffered Rack Extensions to be given away for free.
https://reasonstudios.com/shop/browse/? ... in%20Audio

This is the best challenge held by Oenkenstein Audio so far and as the quality of all the tracks is so high, I want to ask permission to all contributors to publish the tracks and the video on the Reason Studios shop page next week.
Please, let me know if you do not want a track published.

I am so proud on all the contributors and very happy to have to possibilty to publish these contests on this forum.

Thumbs up for Chalism, who conducted the event while I was quite busy and thank you so much musicians for keeping this great community alive!
