Way Beyond Fairlight X Competition
Just a suggestion: You could add a rule to the compo that if there are less submissions than there are prices at the date of the deadline, then the deadline is extended by two weeks.
Stuff I've made and my BC.
Of course
I think you should stay the course for this deadline and then assess everything then. It's a unique situation when the rules state not to publish songs until after the competition ends, so because of that, we wouldn't be seeing songs posted here. Something else to consider changing in the future.
It wouldn't be fair to those who might be participating to change the rules so late and make other adjustments. I personally wouldn't even entertain extending the deadline publicly because that just adds more information and possible confusion. I'd assess all of that after the deadline. The length for this competition is already longer than the normal competition here. That could also be an issue—putting a deadline so far out.
So that's what I think—keep promoting this competition with the current rules and deadline. A patch playthrough video would be inspiring I'm sure. Then after the deadline, assess what you have and discuss where to go from there.
Where else have you shared this competition?

Nowhere else and you are very correct, I just got the feeling no particular action was spinning.
Ok for other competitions people usually share to the Facebook groups and other forums. I'm only a member of the Rack Extension Facebook group. Sharing other places would be good. That's one of the reasons for the front page article with the featured image—it displays nicely when sharing the link.
Perfect Joey, I will share it in the brand new fb group, new members are welcome too. Thank you for the heads up!
Fantastic! Do it!
Bumpin to have y'all honkin
I'm pretty much done, with my track. Just some minor tweaking with fresh ears tomorrow to be done.
The rules don't state this, but I suppose we're expected to submit the rendered audio file and the .reason file so you can check for adherence to the limitations of the competition like stated in the OP, right?

More in order to "pick your brain" and see how you did it perhaps then. Very exciting to read your responses jam-s!
I sent you a PM with the download link to my entry. Fingers crossed for some more last minute entries.

Yes! Would be cool with more entries but otherwise you know what to do in the weekend.
The date day is D day and delays are no longer debatable... 23 hours until deadline!
Yes... and the contestants are lined up
wowhow: great christmas-style emotions & a slight feeling of art of noise rings my memory bells too, fun to see music which isn't so locked to a genre.
bes: wow funnily enough the christmas feeling continues here haha, almost a bach melody too, sweet.
cavunca: very cinematic, spooky, peter gabriel-bass, excellent sound mix. interesting movement with the symphony like orchestration and arrangement. could definitely imagine hearing this in a bbc tv series about abandoned submarines

to all; THANK YOU — fantastic usage of the demo sounds, most fun hearing all of this.
please let me know if I can link your music on the wbf x page, would be cool.
jamS — can you please upload yours to sc you too?

Hi Bitley,
Thanks for the competition and comments on the track!
I spent some time playing classic Nintendo games with my younger brother during Christmas which I think translated into my track!
And Art of Noise. I'm going to check them out! Thank you.
Also, I liked bes and cavunca's tracks as well. They reminded me of sci-fi or mystery dramas and their use of motifs that move the listener deeper into the emotions of the story.
Lastly, yeah! That would be awesome to have my entry linked to the wbfx page.
Thanks so much.

Very kind of you!
Art Of Noise; my number one inspiration source for my entire Fairlight CMI obsession. They used it in such a fantastic way, often blended with analog pads and real orchestra. I can strongly recommend tracks like Moments in love, Ode to Don Jose, Camilla, 90% of what they have done is music that never stops to amaze me and they really created electronica before the word was buzzing, starting out already back in about 1986 or earlier. There is a rare live performance where they have several CMI machines on stage.
excellent starting point; their best of album
inspired by them I've made a few with my refills;
anyway sorry for zoning in on that; back to this now!

thank you again, can you please post it on soundcloud and link it in this thread alongside a quote of jappes tracklist so they can be click'n'played alongside each other?
also guys please never remove your tracks so if you prefer youtube please update with those links; youtube is not limited like soundcloud and then you can design graphics as well; another wish is you name your track like this:
wbfx compo Tracktitle by rtalk Username
Not a requirement of course — just a wish, to satisfy my relentless OCD.
admin: should we have a voting for track favourites to get some more forum action? is that easy to set up? ideally by rating 1 to 5 for the five entries (afak)
also jappe are my comments on jamS' track gone forever as that post was deleted? you can post my opinions below each track link if you want to.
Sure, I'll put the track there in the next few hours when I'm back at the laptop.

Excellent, thank you!
Hello, I'm summoning the rest of the jury members.
I'll come back with an estimate when we expect voting to be completed.
@Bitley: I'll share the link to the Reason files + voting rules by mail to you in a bit
I'll also update the original post with the submissions

No reason files needed but if anyone created a cool patch I can add it as a signature patch Looking forward to your conclusions but don't forget Jam-S'ess Jam
Sorry, Soundcloud did not want to register an account for any of my custom email addresses, so I put it on Bandcamp instead:
