Either I'm going crazy or Gain Tool on its default setting will add a bit of width and possibly even some movement of some sort. There isn't a simple bypass switch and I found it hard to remove it from a channel because it added something that wasn't there when I removed the Gain Tool...

The default settings null with the original signal, so I'd say it's placebo.

I almost can't believe it because I swear it does add a little something but thanks.

Placebo is real - some folks are physically affected by what they believe are helpful drugs, but are really just sugar pills.
So you may well be hearing something, but it’s not something anyone else that listens to your music will necessarily hear! ;)
