Blamsoft's Distributor is great, I am wondering if there is a way to perform one of its features with stock devices or other Rack Extensions? I like to put multiple instances of a hat in a Redrum and alter them all a bit differently, pitch and length etc, then using the Distributor to trigger them with its random feature I can play the hats how I want them, but they will be randomly selected which gives a bit of movement / variation. Any ideas for how to do this without Distributor for collaboration purposes besides bouncing out the midi / CV?

For that, why not do that in NN-XT using the Random Robin feature?

As stated above, I use to use the NN-XT a lot with many layers of tambourines and using the random it gives a nice live effect...
Most of the time I use synths for my sounds and I make sure the velocity has great effect on the sound and using the Delta Player on top of that to randomly changing the velocity.

Wow OK, I guess I only really used NN-XT as a preset instrument before and didn't think to try something like this, but now I will thanks!!Carly(Poohbear) wrote: ↑09 Nov 2024As stated above, I use to use the NN-XT a lot with many layers of tambourines and using the random it gives a nice live effect...

I agree NNXT is probably the simplest. But I can’t help but think “what would Thor do?”…
If you wanted to keep using a ReDrum (and try other options), Thor comes to the rescue!
Use the step sequencer tuned to each note in ReDrum, Play Mode ’to ‘Step’, Direction to ‘Random’, and Steps to ‘10’.
Then either connect a CV trigger into Thors Step Sequencer Gate In (TRIG), or send it the HiHat note (and add KeyGate -> S.Trig in the mod matrix), and it will output a random note number for each input trigger based on the choices you provided. Connect CV/Gate from Thor Step Sequencer CV Output to ReDrums (or whatever instrument you choose) CV/Gate inputs.
The difference is you control the notes with Thor whereas NNXT is in control with that route. With the Thor approach you can control note length separate from the sample used, or put in one note more than once in the sequencer so it is randomly chosen twice as often as the others (or three times as often if you put the same note in the sequencer three times). Or you may choose this approach because you prefer to work with ReDrum as the sound module (or explore Kong or Umpf etc. at the swap of two cables). Always good to have options, and Reason once again provides a few good ones!

I wouldn't have thought of that but it is, in hindsight, bleedingly obvious. And yes Reason is great for offering many ways to flense the felines.
I have used Distributor to do similar eg four synths with different presets so they cycle/shuffle for each note played. Can do similar with the NN-XT Random Robin feature but distinct synths is a bit more powerful. That said I only ever did that once or twice so...

I found that A matrix into a kong pad, linking each pad and trigger mode set to random, then the cv out can go into three separate devices. It works very well with fx devices like alligator, where you have access to each separate band and custom patterns ,other than the ones found built in , can become quite useful. In that case I would link only the first three kong pads which which coincide with alligators three frequency band splits.
