Audio clip curves

At the moment I'm automating Lectric Panda's Amp to do exponential curves for audio clips. It feels too complicated for such a basic process.
Beside using a dummy clip to apply crossfades, or ssl mixer automation... is there a more streamlined way to do audio level curves?
My goal is to cut down on sequencer clutter.

Crossfading to and from an empty clip is the only way without automating.
Audio clip fade curves is also something many others wish they would've added with automation curves and crossfades. It just feels like it's missing/broken when you go between them.

Crossfading to an empty clip doesn't allow exponential curves, does it?

It does, but you can't add points. IOW, it doesn't work like normal automation, which is brilliantly done.
The crossfade method is only halfway brilliant.
