I'm sure I can do it manually with three channel strips, MClass Stereo Imagers and a mix bus, but I'm lazy: are there any rack extensions that can do this? Gating not in the sense of what Alligator does, but like the SSL gate below the compressor. With threshold and adjustable release time. At least 3 frequency bands. After that I'd like to have the option of breaking out each band to zero-delay fx; then mix everything back together.

Another reason to stay away from the manual solution would be that the split frequencies need to be linked, so that the mix signal in the end contains the whole spectrum.

The end goal here is to use gating on different drum sounds in a drum loop. To kill room reverb per band or to make staccato passages from the same loop (shorten only the hihats etc)

After googling I found Splex (never heard of it before) and the compression feature is nice for sure, but I need SSL-style gating.
It even has break out boxes.

If any of you wants to develop something like it, go ahead, just leave me a copy for the idea :D

4Dyne mastering multiband dynamics for the rescue!! It does what I want, the "Perfect 24" frequency splitting setting is quite nice. It has a rather annoying bug, though: At least in the Gate section, the Attack and Release knobs seem to be mislabled. Attack = Release and Release = Attack. Maybe I'll just use 4Dyne as a splitter, then do the rest in mixer channels or use 4 instances of kHs Gate or Unfiltered Audio G8. When's that Combinator 2.0 coming...

You can try this for splitting (its free):
https://www.propellerheads.com/shop/rac ... -splitter/

But for the Gate you need to buy something. I like the khs Gate:

Or get a free VST somewhere.

Thanks Loque, I overlooked the Elements Splitter! Unlike 4Dyne, one can automate and CV control the crossover frequency. The only downsides are that it's 3 bands only (I know, I said that's enough for me :D) and you can't choose a crossover frequency above 10kHz. I gotta check how transparent the filters sound.
