A physical tape can be stopped, slowed down or sped up while running, much like a vinyl record.
What I'm trying to do, is to have grain play a loop. And when I push a key (or another performance input, e.g. mod wheel), an envelope affects the speed. When the key is released, the loops resumes normal playback.
The result I'm hoping for is trigger:able scratching effects on a running loop.
I can draw a passable envelope for Envelope 1 and trigger a scratching effect, but not on a running loop.
What I'm trying to do is possible in DJ software. Using the mouse, I can stop, scratch, and let go.
Does anyone know if this is possible in Grain? How?

Hmm, just plopped a Grain in a project to see how/what..
I put Grain into a Combinator, set Button 1 to Display Gate 0-100, also set Pitch Bend Wheel to Env1 Rate.
Now I can juggle the pitch wheel around to speed up/slow down the sound, try using that as a starting point =) !

Thanks for the suggestion! That didn't work as I envisioned it, though - the pitch didn't return to normal when letting go of the pitch bend.
I found this to be close to what I want, but it comes with weird position behaviour without any pitch wheel input:
Cool, I've not done a lot with Grain yet, and especially not Tape mode.
If i find something that works I'll keep you updated, keep us updated too, always good to know more about all the things.

The Mod wheel triggers pulsars envelope to reduce the speed from 100% to zero. Releasing the mod wheel will return the speed back to 100%.
Pitch bend adjusts the Attack and Release of Pulsars envelope.
I have a joystick Pitch and Mod Wheel so it is all in one movement.
Might give you some ideas...

Nice patch. I added a rough thor element to turn off receiving notes when slowed down to 0%. Could be further refined...

Another way - using XY touch panel (like Slider Pitch Surface) where X position send to bipolar CV out and speed parameter into Grain. Gate (what triggering when any press) is gate for note start in Grain.
More deep construct assume using of start marker (as X positive position) and end marker (what change place to start sample when X is negative).
But I can't build patch because haven't Slider Pitch Surface and trial ended.

Now I tried use sample field of Grain as XY-control but the result didn't like to me.
