control notes with midi knob -ish

I'm looking to mimic a hardware workflow in reason.
I have some hardware like a digitakt or digitone.
One of my happy accident way of working is that I program 1/16 steps notes and then turn on live recording. I go to the menu where I can set the note pitch and just tweak while recording it. So I record all the pitch changes.

With all the patching and rack extensions this should be possible in Reason but haven't figured it out yet. I'd like to loop record pitch changes with the turn of a hardware knob. Any ideas which tool or technique to mimic this?
