Two things that come to my mind with that topic:
a) I experienced myself when doing computer animations (e.g. a gun cocking) and you just don't seem to get it there - they suddenly come to life when you add a sound effect - all the timing issues and strangeness suddenly disappears
b) Stadium lights turning on in movies are fucking annoying
