Any way of visualy detecting pitch in in reason?
You can use Neptune, find a vst tuner plugin, or the load the samples into the NNXT, right click and select 'set root note from pitch detection'. That will tell you the pitch or a pitch it's close to. Since percussion isn't always tuned to notes it may not be completely accurate.

If you are on 9.5 you could use Voxengo Span a free VST frequency analyser plug-in that is pretty accurate. It displays frequencies and notes +/- cents
Usually the most prominent curve you see is the fundamental meaning the key it will be in.

It is not too much of an ask for people or things to be the best version of itself!
Great reminder. Thank you.AttenuationHz wrote: ↑13 Oct 2017If you are on 9.5 you could use Voxengo Span a free VST frequency analyser plug-in that is pretty accurate. It displays frequencies and notes +/- cents

Detecting pitch of percussive sounds can be made a bit easier if you pitch them up +12 or +24 first. Have you tried dropping the audio file directly in an audio track and then using the built in pitch edit?spill86 wrote:Can pitch be analysed visualy with neptune or something similar in reason as im struggling to get all my percussive sounds in key?
Also, I think all the drum sounds that come with Reason are at C.

Grains pitch detection is great. Just wish Reasons browser would detect the pitch and display the info in the autoplay info! Especially for Short one shot samples.RandomSkratch wrote: ↑15 Oct 2017Detecting pitch of percussive sounds can be made a bit easier if you pitch them up +12 or +24 first. I'd say kick fundamental should at least be in tune with the bass and maybe snare too depending on the type but doing everything in the high end might be overkill.teddymcw wrote:So is it a big help to match one's percussive sounds to the key?
I haven't really played with this yet but curious to know when it might be a good / bad idea.

Toms should be tuned according to your song although I don't know what the standard tuning would be. Root, Maj5, Octave perhaps?

Gtune is nice and basic and simple to use (and free). www.gvst.co.uk
MAnalyzer from meldaproduction ain't bad either.

I'm starting to like Melda stuff more and more. The GUIs were a little too meh for me in the beginning but the more I use them the more I see how quick they are. Plus the similarity between different plugins is great.Carly(Poohbear) wrote:Gtune is nice and basic and simple to use (and free). www.gvst.co.uk

Nice, this is something to consider when puzzling together a mix.
I'll see if I can check out how most drum machines tune their toms.
Depends on what music you're making. It's common to tune 808 kicks to a key. Especially if they're being used for baselines. On the other hand acoustic drums are often not tuned to a specific song's key. Consider the the same drum kit is being used for multiple songs. I would say in most cases it probably doesn't matter, just make sure you like how the drums sound with the rest of the music

I think everything with fundamental prominence should be tuned.
