Above 5khz Activity

Hi!

Can anyone tell me, using TDR Nova (don't know if anyone's got this but it's a great FREE EQ),

I'm going though a video where a guy recommends you to listen to white or pink noise in bands going up the spectrum. He says to move onto instruments after so I've bypassed the noise and gone straight to a Rex loop of an acoustic guitar doing 4 chords and listening to bands to train your ears. 20hz-100hz, 20hz-200hz, 100hz-500hz etc.

What I want to know is when moving the HP Filter up, there appears to be no spectrum shading above 5khz but if I raise the LP filter further up than 5k I definitely hear more guitar opening up. So there is obviously sound in that range, but no visible spectrum shading there.

Can anyone tell me why this is?

The picture only shows activity in the spectrum up to about 3khz but it does occasionally reach 5khz sometimes.

It's there you just can't see it because the graph doesn't go that low

Yep, it shows only -12dB or -48dB (not sure which one is what). Not sure if this EQ can have a higher dB range for the display. Check out the settings.

Oh yeah. Just pulled up Fab Filter Pro Q 2 and it shows more spectral analysis. Can't work out what - what dB it is though. What's people's verdicts here from the attached pic?

The peaks are below 48db and looks like it has a higher resolution setting

Oh yeah, all the content over 5khz is close or over the -50dB range isn't it. What's the other reading to the left of that in yellow, the -6, -9, -12 bit?

I think its the dynamic range or so. Just Google tdr nova manual.
