Curious about how much time you guys spend with this stuff.

How many hours a day are you actively making music and mixing / mastering?

How much time are you spending studying these things if you are at all?

Considering the hours, how long does it take you to finish a track?

Interested to hear your responses, cheers :)

How many hours are there in a day?

Honestly I would put in 4-8 hours a day of making music. More than that tends to be counter-productive. I have to remind myself to do other things. I now rarely work evenings as I find it messes me up for sleep. That and my day job is early mornings.

I don't have a set study program but as things come up that I want to get better at (or understand) then I read and practice. Often that gets involved in the making process as I try something out.

A piece is generally 1-2 days incl. Finalizing for the album. Same again for the total album to get it on Bandcamp.

Of course there is then thinking time, which happens as I do other things. More of this happens around album time as I get the concept and other things like covers.

completing a track can be from 30 mins to days/month depending on how good it goes and I find the right sounds or I do them myself :)

After working, eating, sleeping etc. I'd say 26 hours a day minimum. Then it's on to writing the great American novel with the time left over.

2-6 hours 6-7 days a week. I get drunk and smoke once a week usually, don't even bother then (it's not gonna happen.)

I also work 32-55 hours. Sleep is not an issue I've tried sleeping more than 4-5 hours just doesn't happen, I don't get tired enough (and my main job involves moving heavy **** around, I lift, walk ride bikes etc.)

That's cool man, do you ever have trouble with inspiration with it kind of being expected of you? I wish I could keep going for that many hours a day I really do, but I get to a point where I kind of had enough, 8-9 hours a day would be bliss.

Dude! I must say you the truth....
Sometimes it is very stressful for me too (although I never tired of Reason).
There are days that I can not go beyond the 4 hours! .
Furthermore , as you know, inspiration comes and goes.... but often I run on the "ghost producer kind jobs" so I follow a sort of guide to do my songs.

For your sake I suggest you do some 'of physical activity or a simple walk to lighten the ideas from one song to the other :).
And if the mood strikes today. There's always tomorrow ;)

Zero. Nada. Zilch.

I used to live to make music, but since we had a baby 2 years ago I've done nothing. I've also lost almost all motivation for any of my music-related plans that I had.

I only *thought* that i cared about music before she came along... now i really know what care and love is. :)

I'm thinking 3 to 8 hours in a session but the sessions don't happen every day. I study music by actively listening to potential reference tracks and I do plenty of that. I like to have a track done in two sessions so it should be done in less than sixteen hours.
