When to use stereo-imager and when not?

This question has probably been asked before, but Im wondering when its smart to use stereo-imager and when not?

To me personally it only makes sense when you have a complete mix where you can't change the panning of single channels anymore.

I only use it on channels/for creative purposes, e.g. to make a reverb less stereo, or something that's heavily processed more stereo. Or to make the bass frequencies more centered while leaving the upper part stereo. To be fair, I don't use it often.

If I'd be using it on a complete mix, I'd feel I did something seriously wrong and go back to the sources.

a friend of mine would throw one on every track....I don't use them at all.

Exowildebeest said what I think its most useful for. Focusing the bass frequencies. It's like an instant clean up of a messy mix
