I hope this is the right forum to post!
My trouble is the following: I just bought a shiny new system (windows) because my old macbook just wasn't fast enough for my needs.
I tested the system and I was able to run about 36 instances of Antidote. This seemed good in my eyes until I opened the task manager and found the processsor load to be at merely 45 Percent. Yet the reason CPU Meter was red and I could not ad any more instances of Antidote without glitches.
Does anyone of you have any Ideas how to fix this ? I have spent a lot of monesy for my new system and I don't want to use just half of its power.
FYI, Reason multicore rendering was turned on and so were the virtual cores of my processor...
Processor Load trouble
Your task manager CPUs usage meter shows all cores, including hyper-threading/virtual cores as if they are real physical cores. Those virtual/hyper-threading cores however are not used by Reason.
Basically, a virtual core as with hyperthreading, is not an actual physical core. It shares the resources with its actual core. The virtual core starts working when the real one is waiting. This way multiple processes share the same core at one time. In the case of dsp, it might not be beneficial to switch between cores whilst doing calculations.

OKido thanks for the explanation! As virtual cores are not used by reason, I turned hyperthreading off and... voila! More than 50 instances of Antidote without glitches Thank you !
How and where did you turn hyperthreding off?TheMiles wrote:OKido thanks for the explanation! As virtual cores are not used by reason, I turned hyperthreading off and... voila! More than 50 instances of Antidote without glitches Thank you !
In the BIOS!, but to be honest - I am not so sure that was the cause for the performance boost anymore... I have the same results now with Hyper Threading turned on... strange. BUT I have read somewhere on the web, that in deed - turning HT off is a good option when running CPU-demanding tasks.
If there is any boost it shouldn't be more than 10 to 15 percent, but frankly said, the eprformance boost I experienced didn't result from HT turned on or off... strange thing...
Yes, me neither.eauhm wrote:I have experienced no boost in reason turning HT off.
