I am currently using a Venice F32 mixer to get everything into reason. Everything works perfectly.
What i would like to do is send everything back out of reason, through the board, to use the board for mixing, EQ, etc..
while i can easily see where to assign which of the board's channels attaches to an audio track on the way in, i am not sure how to assign an audio track to output directly to a channel strip on the mixer.
Anyone have any ideas on how I would go about doing this?
Thanks!
Mixing outside the box.

so, on the rack, on the back of the audio tracks, i just route those directly to the outputs on the hardware interface?
if i remove that cable, will the mixer in reason work just as it did before?
thanks!

So no it won't but why would that be what you want? I thought you wanted to mix your channels in the external mixer? If you just want to route single channels through the external mixer and then mix the audio in Reason just use the insert cables on the mixer.

Note that you should route your entire set through the external mixer then or use something like the VMG-01 as you'll get a delay equivalent to your systems round trip latency.

ah.. yes.. this is what i am looking for.. i just wanted to make sure that i can quickly remove those cables and i would have the mixer set up as it was previously.. it's kind of a long story..
the TLDR; version.. i am working with an engineer who has been working with analog gear for 40 years or so, and is just getting into using a DAW rather than a tape machine/mixer.
while i was figuring this out, i taught him how to use the reason mixer and he really likes it..
his initial hope was to use reason just like a multitrack tape machine, and use it only to capture audio.. then send it back out through the board and through a mastering chain..
i think he is liking using the DAW part of reason more and more..

But why.... you can't save the mix and go back and edit it later. You can't save the mix with the song. It just doesn't make sense to me. Aren't you also going to limit the number of channels that you have? Is the board analog?sergio_101 wrote:I am currently using a Venice F32 mixer to get everything into reason. the board is analog.. the engineer wants to use the board strictly as a tape machine. with outboard gear covering everything else...
i am pretty sure he'll change his mind once he uses reason for a little while..
the board has 24 channels.. so i think he should be good for awhile...

Why not? Some analog users like their equipment and their own chains to give them 'their' sound.
We've got a Mackie d8b for our setup so we can pipe from Reason or *cough cough Cubase cough* to the Mackie and use the desk effects faders etc.... AND we can save our d8b mixer setups being a digital desk and all.
Just different ways to bring external to the internal and vice versa. Ever heard an analog desk be driven hard? soooo warm and you can get some really insane sounds out

this is just a different kind of workflow. this board is not digital, so recreating a mix (with eq) easily is pretty much impossible.. but i am noticing that the board eqs sound a good deal better than the software eqs.. maybe not better. .but different in a way that i prefer.. but this really locks down how we manage our workflow..
Hi there!
Ive recently got a venice F32! Awesome to have this desk! Ive figured out (after reading manual and watching youtube) how to use the basics. In reason i go to the rack and flip it round the the rear and send the audio to the mono channels on the venice,, then i push the firewire button on the appropriate channel on the venice. I can patch any mono channel on the venice f32 to any of the 4 groups - etc
The eq sounds great:
My question: How do we send the fx from reason like reverb delay etc to the aux channels on the desk? Ive right clicked on the rear of the 'audio track' in the rack,, that contains the verb/delay/etc,, and looked for 'aux 1' to send it to,, but in the 'hardware interface' in reason its just channel numbers; i thought maybe ch 33 + 34 would be aux 1 but no... HELP ME
- The right part of the desk is confusing me a bit with the matrix and aux channels.
Cheers in advance
