Hey all

I am currently in the works on creating Hardgroove techno (For those who don't know the sound:
)
The problem and the main thing with it is that the percussion loops are heavly compressed with the kickdrum and there is no open space between the Shakers and the rest of the percussion.

I have been working for a couple of weeks in KONG doing some Percussion loops (With Kong Sounds), but I always fail when it comes to make the sound "massive" or "thick". I been trying to use Scream 4 and compression, Mclass EQ and Compressor, also with Regroove, but I don't get that thick solution.
So I am running out of ideas and asking here for help, pointers or tips or perhaps direction where I can turn to.

I have almost all Vengeance sample kits, but I am at the point that I feel that adding finished loops destroys the personality of the track.

Thanks in advance for help.

PS. I use Reason 8.0

For me it sounds like there is not just only a shaker and a snare. The snare itselft is at least layered with a clap, a snappy snare and a flat noise snare. All EQed in the highs, maybe with a dynamic EQ increasing the highs with the hit. Of course it is bitcrushed and or destroyed or saturated in different ways. So... Do not think of THE snare sample, think of Samples and effekts to create a sound.

Same for the shaker. It sounds with a additional pure noise added that got its rythem by the compressor with late attack, low threshold and low release, maximum compression and high volume gain increase.

Note that a gated reverb before amplification and saturation can help.

Also try using a gater to create a deeper rythem of a nearly flat noisey sound. I like the Dynamite fir that, naybe with a sidechain.

Hope that helps...
