Here's an example of how you can use switch between Main Sequencer drum patterns in real time and map each pattern to a button on your MIDI controller. Yes, I finally cracked it and it's a lot of fun! :)

Sorry but this is Reason 8 only for now and I don't have time to explain it fully right at the moment. One of the important factors is to use the ReGroove to slide the tracks back by 3 Ticks to allow the CV devices time to do their thing, otherwise the first note gets dropped.

Map the buttons on your Launchpad (or similar) to the Pattern Buttons on the Matrix. I was going to do a video but it's delaying me putting this out there for other people to use, so here it is in its raw form.

This technique uses Robotic Bean's Select CV Switch Rack Extension

That´s actually pretty cool. I´d a go today and tried this technique. I found that if you connect multiple "Select CV Switches" to a "bank" Select CV Switch you get 64 switchable patterns/MIDI tracks.
I adapted my Launchpad Codec to send a bank select and pattern select remote message for a scene change and voila, switch between 64 MIDI tracks.

You can even play chords by the sequencer if you take care that notes don´t overlap (shortening the length by some ticks) so you won´t run into trouble because of the monophonic nature of CV.

In the video I switch between various MIDI tracks that play some chord progressions. The Select CV Switches are controlled by my Launchpad which remote controls two Combinator rotaries (bank and pattern select).

Cool video. This technique has a lot of potential if you're willing to dive into CV. You could create Ableton style Scenes.

It´s completely possible, only downside is that you need a lot of these devices and one cannot retrigger the loop from the start.

Say for 64 scenes à 8 tracks (= channels) you´d need
(8 + 1) * 8 = 72 devices
That´s quite a bit of CV cables ;)
On the Remote Codec side it requires 16 remoteable items (2 per track) which is a manageable amount.

I´d suppose best is to just use this technique for some of the tracks/channels e. g. for a pads channel. The rest can be done with Dr. Octorexes.
Pads are not very appropriate as Rex loops as they have nearly no remarkable transients.
