Hmm. Aly James has a v.3 of VProm ”coming soon” :). Wonder how the Gforce campares to v.2.

Just picked up IconDrum yesterday. Good deal at around $25USD. Believe this is an intro price. I do not have Aly James VPROM Version however do have VSDSX and it is an outstanding product and one of a kind. I'd expect great things from his Linn Replica. My take...

At an overview I would say the upside to AJ's is the loadable EPROM sounds which are easy enough to get and make. Converts to a low bit rate as you would expect. This gives a greater variety of sounds interchangable with EPROMS like the ones from the DMX. It looks to have a larger control of MIDI on the individual hits. The menus are very attractive and in the long run will probably be slightly less expesive once the introduction offer is over. I do not see any mention of effects in the manual.

Using the IconDrum brings the feel of the original. All the classic sounds there with slight variations in the dropdowns which add mods, tape, LM-1 and LM-2 sets. It does not load EPROMS. It does have the simplicity of not having to flip to pages in the sound design. Everything is out front and easy to see. The IconDrum has a robust effect panel. Rev/Delay levels are individually assignable to drum sounds. Globally you can string a chain of three effects together. Seven or so effects (your typical) arranged in preferred order. Each sound has an individual HP/LP filter. Operates in two velcity modes. One is is as original with the variation buttons. Additioanlly you can use velocity mode working off the keyboard velocity.

Both devices seem to support multi out and in this manner you can apply effects to each out individually instead of the effects of the whole set or the lack effects at all. The IconDrum is freshly out and I would not expect huge changes or upgrades to the unit in any time soon. Aly however, does have a V3 coming and does impressive upgrades. Both I am sure deliver on the promise of the legend and would not go wrong in getting either. But... IconDrum is $25 right now.

I have VProm, VSDSX and SY-4. As far as those plugins are concerned I don’t think you can get.better. I dodged the Gforce one for that reason.

I can't disagree. I love VSDSX! One of my favorite drum plugins. There is no superior of the SDS drums. The LinnDrum device is a well covered piece of equipment in industry and many have their takes on it with different approaches. I've bought a few as well as sample sets and they have been to me lackluster. I was, and maybe still am, considering Aly's on his reputation and he continues to improve capability on his stuff. On that, I strongly fell that it could be the superior. But not having it I cannot make a judgement on comparrison. GForce can be found at $25 at the moment which is almost half the cost of VPROM. That will change. It is a good product to mimic the original and a good deal at the current offering.
