Thanks for the heads up!

For me, the Cherry Audio plugins take longer than other plugins to load. Why is that? Anybody else experiencing the same?

It's about 8-9 seconds here. Sometimes a spinning wheel for that long...sometimes nothing, as if it's frozen, and then it appears. But either way, it consistently takes that long to load.

And it doesn't matter if I already have one instance loaded and then add another to the rack. It takes that amount of time each time.

My first thought was that maybe it's "calling home" to authorize every time. But if I disconnect WiFi, start a new session, the plugins still load and take the same amount of time to instantiate.

@joeyluck
No issues with loading times. About 1 to 2 seconds (same as Arturia and other VSTs). Having said that, many times a VST will send Reason into Not Responding mode for a few seconds.

Initially yes (server connection/updates). They seem to load find now..

Nice xmas gift for those that don't have an emulation. Sounds good even though I still prefer bx_oberhausen.

In order to quote

the product page,

"Synthesizer Expander Module is a free emulation of the classic Oberheim® self‑contained synthesizer module of the same name."

This plugin is really fun. Just throw a few instances of this great sounding module into a Combinator and you get a polyphonic monster – have fun!

You can probably do a decent SEM with Thor’s state variable filter.

Well, scratch that ! I just tried to match a Thor patch to the Arturia SEM. Sounds totally different! Lol

I've never been impressed with the sound of Thor. Got excited when it first came out, but never stopped yawning.

Those "Thor can do that" messages are still being used in 2024

SEM is easily 40 years old. Why not?

I don't know how long you have been in reason forums but almost any synth that would come out after thor, (many years ago), someone would come up with "Thor can do that" to the point of parody

The truth is, that you can create most of all sounds with Thor...You may not match it 100%, but you can get close. Add a few fx maybe...

And the sad more important truth is, that you can do most of all sounds with any cheap synths...And today nobody can hear any difference with a mp3 compressed sound on a cheap mobile phone anyway.

The expensive synths just have different filter design, additional tonal tweaks you do not need to add by yourself and maybe some better render quality, espcially if it comes to modulation and artefacts...
