Was FF Twin 1 and FF Twin 2 any good? I know they've been out for a minute. Like 20 years ago? GUI/UX has come quite a long way!

Twin 2 sounds really good, and has loads of presets.EnochLight wrote: ↑07 Feb 2023Was FF Twin 1 and FF Twin 2 any good? I know they've been out for a minute. Like 20 years ago? GUI/UX has come quite a long way!

If it's not clear, this is now released.
I've been trying it out today, and sound-wise it's excellent. The included presets are also refreshingly usable compared to some other synths--a lot of expressive patches that are generally fun to play. Of course, a lot of that's down to personal taste.
I'm more torn on the UI. It looks good, performs smoothly, and it's easy to create a patch from scratch. But the modulation system makes it difficult to understand an existing patch at a glance.
There are some surprising limitations I've noticed as well:
- You can save/load presets for the envelope generators in the mod section but not for the main envelope generator (unless I missed it?)
- You can't reorder the built-in effects
- You can't copy/paste between sections, even if they support presets
Those are minor nitpicks. The readability of the modulation system is the main thing holding me back from purchasing. I'll see if I get used to it after spending some more time with it.

Thanks for the feedback. I will try resisting the temptation to download.

So I resisted about 15 min before downloading it.
The UI and generally the workflow of this synth is very very impressive. I guess for a new user with no Diva, Spire, Dune or any other analogical power house, it does make sense. For the others, I don't really see a differentiating factor, a part from the truly fantastic UI...
I agree with Pepin on the sound quality, but I also agree on the limitations, it doesn't really bring new or unique features.
Maybe with a good discount... It could be a Diva killer as it has excellent sounding filters and is more modern in its UI.

Twin 2 was decent. It was one of the first handful of plugins I ever purchased (so long as that I got it with Pro-Q2 on a EDU purchase).
Probably will upgrade to Twin 3, as it’s cheap enough ($45) as an owner of nearly all the other major FF plugins.

Fabfilter range is very appealing...
But i already have izotope range for mastering and a lot of stuffs for mixing like kilohearts suits of effects, Rob papen effects, and other izotope stuffs... not sure il found an use for it

After using Fabfilter Twin 3 since a couple of days, I am baffled by how engaging the UI is for sound design, in particular for substractive synthesis.
The fact that you have so many filters richness and visual feedback at the same time is magical. You can see and hear directly what you do and what you're modifiers do.
As a result, I have never been much of a sound designer, I generally start from a base and modify it, and yet, with twin 3 I have already created half a dozen of useful sounds.
