Hi all,

does anyone know how to assign a graphic/thumbnail to a VST that has no gui.
ie: the VST can not be opened to take a screenshot.

Is there a folder where the screenshots are saved, and a settings file is that i can examine?

OS: Mac (Big Sur)

Check out the folder "C:\Users\<<yourname>>\AppData\Local\Propellerhead Software\Reason[ Suite]" and try to figure out the right name and create a image. Good luck.

While on the subject of vst thumbnails was wondering if there is an easier way of assigning thumbnails to vst's? The reason I ask is I just updated from ver 10 to 11 suite for $168.00 "thanks to the posters that gave me a heads up about the deal" and it was a pain in the ass doing the screenshot capture process for the 150+ vst's I now own. I would have thought that perhaps reason had some sort of a cache file that it could read from as to make the screenshot refresh unnecessary. Anyway after that ordeal I think its time to go on a vst diet and downsize.

I always try to copy/backup the pictures. Between normal Reason and Suite is just a different folder, so you just need to copy them. That is something that RS really missed...

Even if it doesn't have a GUI, I think you can take a screenshot so that a file is created, so then you can replace that image with that file name.

Hi and thanks!
but this location:
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/Reason/Plugin Screenshots
does not exist in Mac "Big Sur" , there is only ~/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/Soundbanks

And, you can not take a screenshot of a VST that doesn't open it's gui, ie: click on the "open window" button does nothing for this particular VST. ( yes the VST itself works fine :puf_wink: )

Thanks anyway, hopefully someone comes along with an answer for Big Sur.

Ok , maybe this helps:

1 -> stick VST in the rack
2 -> "File -> Export Device Remote Info"
3 -> open txt file ^
remote info.png
remote info.png (7.35 KiB) Viewed 1559 times

4 -> create those 2 files "vst.dev.InstrumentName_browser/device.png"
5 -> win?

Excellent!
I got stuck a week ago after i tried the steps from the other thread, cause the names i found in that folder were not making any sense, as i had no idea what the name/information for the VST i was trying to fix should be.

But now with your additional steps, i managed to find out what name i should use, and i have successfully created custom snapshots for this GUI-less VST.
Finally all looks neat and proper in the browser and the rack.

Thanks!!
