Find out which Reason files contain which VSTs
Does anyone know if it is somehow possible to find out which VSTs I used in my songs without opening them.
I test my songs after updating a VST and the more songfiles I have, the more effort this gets. Would be nice to know which songs I have to open and test because they use the updated VST.
Cheers bigguy

Perhaps name them "-vst" when you save the file

AFAIK the format of the files is not open and therefor no tools or scripts are available.
You could try to reverse engineer the file format, but i think this might be illegal, even if it is not explicitly stated somewhere or is it? I never read through all the stuff of the license agreement, but i would be surprised, if it would be legal...

Reason12, Win10
Maybe you can set reason to save vst thumbnails to your working folder, so when you build a song with vst's, just remember to click create thumbnail every time you load a new vst when creating a track. That way you would have all the thumbnails in your working folder.
Only problem is that I'm not sure you can set a custom folder to save thumbnails.

I had a look at the file in an text editor. Unfortunately I cannot find any VST related readable information there. Reverse Engineering is not only out of my skill set. It would also not be worth the time investing for me
Maybe I ask my question to the Reason studios support.
Thx

Sorry but I knew someone would have to come out with a silly Reason work around answer. So if you use 6 vst's in a track you're supposed to name it "The Man That Was - Spire, Arturia DX7, Cableguys VolumeShaper, Diva, Omnisphere"? lol!
Short answer is, no you can't do it but we should be able to in 2020 in the 6th oldest daw out of 25 daw's.

Create extensive notes about each track before you close the project.bigguy1 wrote: ↑09 Dec 2020Does anyone know if it is somehow possible to find out which VSTs I used in my songs without opening them.

I'm curious, which DAWs do this? How does it work? How does the system show me which VSTs I used in an unopened file?Creativemind wrote: ↑09 Dec 2020Short answer is, no you can't do it but we should be able to in 2020 in the 6th oldest daw out of 25 daw's.
I'm guessing Studio One? You're the Studio One guy right? How does Studio One do it?

I guess he just misunterstood in a way that I just want to know if there is a VST used...
I was also going to suggest this. I've actually gone back through all of my tracks and added VST notes. Problem is that the Song notes gets truncated if it is too long, so something to be mindful of. Mine show 9 lines of text max in the browser preview.

Would be nice if they had a simple Export devices used option in the File menu, would be a simple case of import that into a db for stats and checking what is used in what etc.
As a suggestion for a future Reason update it would be nice to have a breakdown of the tools used in a project in a simple text or excel like open file format, the same way you can export your tracks with all different kind of options. One little box you could automatically check for Vst, Re, name of the patches, etc. Now that I think about it, this is important, for cataloging your projects for many years. Things stop working, of tools are out of reach (compagnies going under, dead websites). Using Reason standalone (no VST) made me forget how important this used to be for me.
Edit: Exactly what suggested before me, while I was typing

I'd love to know how - I can't find the feature mentioned anywhere - maybe there's an accepted term that I'm not using to search?
What's this feature called in Reaper, Cubase and Logic?

I didn't say it was in any of them. I just speculated.DougalDarkly wrote: ↑09 Dec 2020I'd love to know how - I can't find the feature mentioned anywhere - maybe there's an accepted term that I'm not using to search?

I'm talking about the Reason Browser. You get a preview of the song notes there.
