ThrillseekerLA by Variety of Sound is a free emulation of the LA-2A. Only 32 bit though, so if you're someone who doesn't mind using a bridge. I personally don't

You could try Analog Obsession's free LALA vst. Not sure how it stacks up against the RE-2A as I've never had a chance to use the RE myself.
I’ve never tried the Waves version, but I’ve heard it’s not quite as good as the RE2A version—though I read that a while back and it could just be one of those sort of reflexively anti-Waves comments, so who knows.
anyway, I finally got around to buying Klanghelm’s MJUC compressor about a month ago, and the first compressor type (there are three) is every bit as easy to use as the RE2A. I’m not sure whether it’s also modeled after an LA2A, but it sounds incredible too.
for $30 or so, you get three REALLY GOOD compressors.
if you’re really interested in spending a bunch of money and switching DAWs, the best LA2A plugin I’ve ever heard is the Leveler plugin included in MOTU Digital Performer.

Seconded. MJUC is really, really good. And there's MJUC Jr which is freeguitfnky wrote: ↑18 Sep 2020
