This Dev got tired of waiting for Reason Studios and took matters into their own hands.

Been playing for an hour or so. It's a nice synth.

So, how does it compare?

But is it really a Thor 2 though?

Was it inspired by Thor, or is the name just a coincidence? It looks to have less features than Thor.

It was inspired by it as I have read on the KVR thread: https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopi ... 1&t=542997

"There might have been a slight inspiration"

It's got a load more oscilator types, many wavetables and other things. It has more filter types and more fx, all assignable in the mod matrix as well as an x y pad. It does away with the sequencer section. It behaves like Thor but sounds quite a lot different. Fat tone that's hard to dial back.

It certainly doesn't look like its inspiration. And its VST3 only.

It does look similar I think.

Just been having a play with it. It's nice. It has the same ease of use and seems quite straight forward to wrap your head around which is one of Thor's good points. Pity it won't work in Reason until they add VST3.

There are things missing that would really improve it. No phase sync of oscillators, linear to exponential switch for the envelopes and some effects that would enhance it, reverb and unison (unless they're hidden from me and I haven't discovered them yet) the width parameter in the amp section isn't unison is it?

Does anyone know what the Rst button is the AnologOsc?

I have found out, thanks Benedict...

Really ugly concept theft I'd say.

If RS isn‘t willing to deliver, then others will do for sure. And with the subtle irony of „VST3 only“.

Not sure if "VST3 only" is subtle irony, could just be that new plugins seem not to be coming out as VST2 any longer. (Steinberg's rules)

Perhaps they can sue for a percentage of the profits on this free synth!
And yeah the VST3 aspect is a bit funny, but is at the same time a little sad as Steinberg has outlawed new developers from releasing anything as VST2.

New developers aren't able to make VST 2's, not a choice they can make.

Well, like most of Reason's stuff and pretty much all synth VSTs in general.

Nice filters though, wish Thor had those and decent FXs.

Just for clarification: with „subtle irony“ I mean the fact that Reason users can‘t add it to their arsenal, because they are still limited to VST2.

Has Steinberg outlawed VST2 ? I just bought a load of new stuff that has VST2 included. Is it just that they must include VST 3 with it? What's the story here?

If you're a dev and received your sdk before 2018, for now you are ok to release both VST2 and VST3.
So Steinberg are really only hurting new devs and people using DAWs such as Reason.

It's not in RE format but I guess that doesnt matter anymore since vsts are programmed to be treated like RE.
The vstloader in Reason isn't even a traditional bridge, it's like they made up a wrapper.

I think Steinberg have been reasonable. VST3 has been around for ages.Compare it to Apple who will break everything every OS update and leave devs scrambling... It's on Reason Studios to support the current standards.

Well I guess there's degrees of reasonableness , and then theres Apple :p

Well hopefully we get VST3 soon, perhaps in a point update as Ableton did only last year.
