That's insane! but also causes me to wonder if something's getting phased out.

Maybe they are trying to snag former Cakewalk owners to build up their userbase?
Cubase has a Sonar crossgrade.
Digital Performer now has a crossgrade for $195
Presonus Studio One crossgrade for $125 at JRRshop...
Stupid low entry prices for a DAW - less than Logic Pro X !
Not sure why Propellerhead hasn't offered one. Maybe they have such a big user base they are not worried.
Perhaps. the price does match the others.stratatonic wrote: ↑11 Dec 2017Maybe they are trying to snag former Cakewalk owners to build up their userbase?

It still can't hurt the bottom line to get more users though...QVprod wrote: ↑11 Dec 2017Perhaps. the price does match the others.stratatonic wrote: ↑11 Dec 2017

My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

I bought it since I can't upgrade Soundforge for that price. The Cubase crossgrade is an insane deal but I'm not a fan of dongled DAWs that are not as flexible as Reason. Tracktion, Mixcraft, and Overture have crossgrade prices. Just recently Reason and Bitwig were on sale for $299.stratatonic wrote: ↑11 Dec 2017Maybe they are trying to snag former Cakewalk owners to build up their userbase?

There are plenty of Sonar users who have a copy of Reason and took advantage of the upgrade sale. Reason is not going to replace their Sonar because some are not into the rack mount workflow and these are ones who do a lot of recording. Some DAWs are better for certain genres.
I imagine the Samplitude deal was to get more users. It's not popular probably because it is not heavily advertised. It's a very underrated DAW and it excels in working with audio.
Just hope Gibson doesn't try to buy Reason. They killed Opticode, 500M in debt, produce poor quality, to where the name Gibson means nothing anymore.
It is sad when a DAW leaves the market. It is interesting that Sonar users are treated like disaster relief victims. Look at those crossgrade prices. Even some of the 3rd party software developers have released codes so VSTs can be used outside of Sonar. I've had a Sonar license since 2 to the present. I even had the lifetime upgrade. Since I got more involved in dance genres I did't use it that much but I feel sad over its demise. I kept supporting them because they had an I trust you attitude towards the user. I still support those type of developers.
Many people took that Samplitude deal because of Spectral Layers.

Yeah, you could buy it solely for any of the three products and it would still be good value.kitekrazy wrote: ↑13 Dec 2017I bought it since I can't upgrade Soundforge for that price.stratatonic wrote: ↑11 Dec 2017

Looks like many are scrambling to increase their user base. The glory days of the desktop DAW are likely over. Apple sure didn't help matters for DAW makers by pricing Logic so silly cheap. And the younger musician isn't tied down to desktop like the old(er) generation.
