Repro-5 beta is out! (U-He Prophet 5 VA)
Read all about it!

Haven't downloaded it yet, but early reports are it eats CPUs whole. It's default setting is 4x oversampling, equivalent to Diva's Divine, and the HQ setting is 8x.

1. it's BETA
2. Repro was the same way during BETA
3. I purchased REPRO it's good on CPU
And 4 the best part that I think some People don't know...it's that REPRO-5 will be 100% FREE to all who purchased REPRO
My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

So.. serious question... why does everything think this is an awesome mono-synth? I mean, Blamsoft's VK-2 Viking, while not a mono-synth or Prophet emu, seems infinitely more powerful/modular and sounds incredible. Also, everyone thinks Repro "looks" awesome, but I think both Repro-1 and Repro-5 look absolutely "meh" from a GUI/UX standpoint. Absolutely nothing remarkable about them, anyway.
Sorry - don't mean to rain on the Repro parade; just trying to understand why people love it so much. I had the demo of Repro-1, but it didn't blow my socks off.

I remember trying Legend, and wanting that, and trying VK-2 and wanting that (though that was a CPU eater too) and then when 9.5 came out trying Repro-1 and just finding it really fun.
Dunno why particularly, although I do enjoy using its sequencer.
At the time, they were all 99 tokens, so I went for Repro.
I got VK-2 in the sale, and we all know I'll get Legend at some point.
However, right now I'm excited about getting a U-He polysynth for free!
I don't mind the Repro-1 interface, beyond the fact it's not in the rack. I wish the writing was a bit bigger relative to the rest of the interface. It's definitely less pretty than VK-2 and Legend. Repro-5 looks prettier.

I meant to say Legend above, not VK-2.. d'oh! But yeah, I hear you.

Obviously it comes down to preference... I like the warm inviting look of REPRO-5 and 1.
As for sound...REPRO sound "phat" and Heavy to me and I'm sure a VK-2 user will say the same thing about it.
All of REASON's devices are inherently more modular that is demanded by REASON users, even the VST's become more modular once loaded into REASON. And it's again preference from the developer how modular there devices are. At the end it's all a preference.
And also I should add, reputation. U-he synth sounds fantastic. DIVA is amazing sounding Virtual instrument with good modular options, feature rich, and I think it also looks nice at default with the option to Customize the Skin.

Repro-5 public beta (Linux support added)
Hi all,
We're finally good to go for public beta testing
Early adopters, please note that this is a Friday and we'll mostly have to leave you with just this forum until next week.

Don't party too early... it's still a CPU scorching device :lol

Ah..ok...but then "infinitely more powerful/modular" How does apply exclusively to Legend compared to REPRO?

It doesn't exclusively apply, but Legend sounds amazeballs - even Urs himself commended Synapse Audio on their achievement when it came out (it's over at KVR or Twitter somewhere - can't remember), and looks better IMHO. And The Legend tends to go on sale far cheaper than Repro sells for even at its intro price. But of course, the two are modelling two different pieces of hardware, so there's that...

I mean, I think you did mean VK-2, cos you described it very well.
Legend is no more modular or "powerful" (as in feature-packed) than Repro, other than having an extra oscillator. But VK-2 certainly IS more modular and powerful than Legend OR Repro!
Legend and VK-2 are both explicitly Moog-y, whereas Repro is Prophet-y, so that's gonna be the main difference. Which is best will come down to a user's preference for Moogs or Prophets.
Ultimately the price will be $149 for Repro, which will contain Repro-1 and Repro-5 as separate instruments. Until January the 1st you can still pay $99 to get both.
I'm excited about the per-voice effects and panning!

Yes, I did mention that the two are modelling two different pieces of hardware. For those who have neither Legend, VK2, or Repro, the choice is certainly down to preference. Repro represents a better deal at the moment, since neither Legend nor VK2 are on sale.

How is that a better deal? RePro is still $99 USD which is the same price as either of them.EnochLight wrote: ↑18 Nov 2017Yes, I did mention that the two are modelling two different pieces of hardware. Well, $99 USD gets you both Repro 1 and 2 at the moment, from what I understand, so there's that. IMHO, if I owned none of them - I'd lean towards either Legend or VK2, as they are most certainly easier on the CPU than Repro, and integrate perfectly in Reason's rack. But I'm more a fan of Moog than Prophets, so... I'm a bit biased. Also, I already have Legend & VK2 and you couldn't pry them from my cold, dead hands.eXode wrote: ↑18 Nov 2017How is that? Which by all intents and purposes are more or less the same (yeah I know about sequencer, and different effects). It could just as easily have been a single product.
The CPU is left on the floor crying afterwards.

Lol! This honestly almost made me lose my coffee - thanks guys.

I installed the Repro-5 beta.
Its CPU demands are roughly the same as VK-2, maybe slightly higher. In HQ mode I reckon it uses more CPU than VK-2 with all the quality switches turned to max, depending on the patch.
Turning off the effects helps a lot, and in my case turning on multi-core helps too.
Just played a load of presets, but it sounds good. I dunno if it sounds as good as all that CPU would suggest, but I expect it's when you start twiddling knobs and pushing things to limits that all that effort spent on modelling an analogue synth really pays off.
If you like 80s horror film sounds, if you like Twin Peaks, if you like Brad Fiedel's Terminator scores, you'll like this. It strikes me as a delicate, pure, pretty-sounding synth - there's a patch called Everything and two patches called In Its Right Place. This and Repro-1 for $99 is worth it to me; not sure I'd pay $149 for them. Glad I have them. Right up my street.
