Spend $4.99 on GooglePlay for the latest issue of Computer Music. Get a bunch of VSTs for free. Including somewhat stripped down but still very powerful versions of Dune and Bazille.
Here are some excellent quality freeware VST I think are worth using regardless of price, although this really just scratches the surface. I just wish there were more synths. There must be many others I've never run across, so hopefully others will chime in with more recommendations.
George Yohng's W1 Limiter: A perfect clone of the Waves L1 limiter that now includes a nearly matched L2 adaptive release as well.

GVST plug-ins: I especially like their GClip clipper:

Voxengo SPAN: A fantastic spectrum analyzer with tons of features worth anyone's time free or not.

U-He Zebralette
https://www.u-he.com/cms/zebralette
Synth1: It may not be beautiful to look at, but it's still one of the best regarded freeware softsynths and modelled after the Nord Lead 2.

TAL-Chorus-LX is an emulation of the Juno 60/106 chorus module and sounds fantastic.

Valhalla Freq Echo: Frequency Shifter + Analog Echo Emulation
https://valhalladsp.com/shop/delay/valhalla-freq-echo/
Tokyo Dawn Labs makes some of the most "commercial grade" effects plug-ins I've run across. They do offer a more advanced "Gentleman" edition for each, but I wouldn't call the free ones crippled. They just released an excellent dynamic EQ, which I can't recall seeing as a freeware plugin before.

It is not too much of an ask for people or things to be the best version of itself!

That's a nice plug there! Kind of like Indent 2 that was free up until a few months back.

Reason is freezing for me and locking up my system with that in the project I'm just testing to see if that's what the cause was. Have you any issues or does anyone else have issues using this plug-in?
Could be other things also have to rule them out before installing krush again.

Yes, it was one of the earliest released Rack Extensions. The VST is free, though, which is relevant to this thread.geronimo wrote:And he already exist at Rack Extension format, let's not forget it: https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/roughrider/

$25 as an RE or $0 as a VST. Tough choice!geronimo wrote:And he already exist at Rack Extension format, let's not forget it: https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/roughrider/

Just a quick question on VSTs
When I first powered up R9.5 it apparently made a search and found many of my best VSTs, but several weren't (assuming this was due to either not being VST 2.4 or 32bit versions), however yesterday I downloaded a couple of free VSTs with 64bit support for Mac OSx, but none of them showed up in my list of available instruments in Reason when I started up Reason.
In Reaper there is always a visible scan of your PC for new VST before it fires up, is it done in the same way in Reason (without me knowing that it is doing it in the background) or is there a way to manually to initiate a new scan of VSTs on your PC? If so how can make Reason make a new scan for new plug ins on your PC / Mac?
BTW Stereoklang have a new article out on VSTs in general, perhaps some good stuff in there for anyone searching for new stuff:

Cheers T

Maybe this has been mentioned already, but just in case. Get a copy of the most recent issue of Computer Music Magazine. Each issue comes with a DVD that is loaded with FREE plugins of all sorts, with new ones added every month. Some are quite useful. Download them all, try them out, keep the ones you like. For those on a tight budget, you can get a lot of good tools to get you going.
Make sure the VST file(s) are installed in a place where Reason expects to find them. Many VST installers have default installation locations that are different from the directories scanned by Reason. You can specify which directories Reason scans in Preferences > Advanced. Multiple directories are allowed.TEGEL wrote:Just a quick question on VSTs

As far as I know, the only way to force a rescan is to restart Reason.TEGEL wrote:In Reaper there is always a visible scan of your PC for new VST before it fires up, is it done in the same way in Reason (without me knowing that it is doing it in the background) or is there a way to manually to initiate a new scan of VSTs on your PC? Audiorealism ADM drumstation Computer Music version is just amazing, it has just a slight problem with internal bpm that don't automatically
sync, but in pair with the 808 it's absolutely fantastic.
Nova TDR parallel eq best free vst hands down for me.
CM is just 4pounds, it takes a little to get access to the vault, but it's totally worth it!
Also there's Vengeance Scope which is very very nice.
