Hi there,
For those looking anew at VSTs and feeling bamboozled, here are two developers I'd thoroughly recommend:
http://sonimus.com
Fantastic EQs and console emulations. Sweetone in particular is fantastic.
http://klanghelm.com/contents/main.php
Also great. The distortion module is high class, and the various-tube compressor in particular is out of this world. Just check on any review.
Both inexpensive developers.

I'm going to bump this because I just bought the wonderful Klanghelm SDRR saturation plugin and it's a shame if such great devices go unnoticed just because the developers prioritize the products over marketing.

All Valhalla reverbs are fantastic too.
Shimmer is a personal favourite to me, and it's extremely light on CPU whilst also sounding immense.
