Hello, I'm looking for a good limiter to upgrade from the Reason Stock Maximizer Limiter I thought about Izotope Ozone 9 but it's too pricey for my budget looking for a good $50 limiter or less...

I am not a fan of iZotope. The Fabfilter L2 is great, just my recommendation. Better try for yourself. But they are mastering limiters - just too heavy for some track or bus limiting.

Kuassa Kratos 2 is good. Can get in a bundle with the EVE Eq's , they are fantastic.

I was just about to ask if Kratos 2 Maximizer any good and does it have true peak limiting?Jackjackdaw wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021Kuassa Kratos 2 is good. Can get in a bundle with the EVE Eq's , they are fantastic.
Toneboosters Barricade

and TDR Limiter 6 GE

(Useful review here: https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/toky ... miter-6-ge )
...are good options that fit your budget.
They both have generous fully-functional demo modes that work perfectly well for mastering a track.

there is also the predecessor of this one, which might do the job:

But this limiter is already pretty heavy.

The question is: What do you expect? (or in other words: what does mean "upgrade" to you?)
Do you want a simple brickwall limiter for loudness at mastering stage?
Then this one is always a good recommendation:
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/loudma ... omas-mundt
It also has true peak feature.

I'm just looking for a good master limiter to upgrade from the stock maximizer limiter in reason 11. I thought about waves l2, ozone 9 and fabfilter but I don't want to break the bank if it's not necessary.madmacman wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021The question is: What do you expect? I second the recommendation for Ozone Elements - it's even more than I need since I rarely need EQ on the master. I actually like/use the widener more than expected, not being a fan of the effect in general. Very easy to use, transparent sounding, great graphics, got it for next to nothing on a promotion.

Indeed it isn't. Barricade 4 and Limiter 6 GE, fidelity wise, are some of the best. Just recently bought the latter and will probably buy Barricade at some point. Barricade is somewhat less flexible, but the UX is great like all other TB plugins.jaeproduced wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021I'm just looking for a good master limiter to upgrade from the stock maximizer limiter in reason 11. Might also be worth mentioning that IKM Stealth Limiter is on sale for 25€ right now - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/t ... th-limiter

I just came across Waves L2 Ultramaximizer for $29 how does it stack up against Ozone, Barricade, etc? I see it doesn't have true peak metering like Ozone is that important?Ermitage wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021Indeed it isn't. Barricade 4 and Limiter 6 GE, fidelity wise, are some of the best. RE, I like the edge in Kratos. I’m iffy on the Ozone Limiter with the companies being removed from the shop and all. Really I just want MClass Suite 2. If I just need a limiter at the end of my mix I throw up the Weiss Maximizer. Less hungry than Ozone for me

It would help to focus the suggestions if you could tell us what it is that the Maximizer does not do well enough for you.jaeproduced wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021Hello, I'm looking for a good limiter to upgrade from the Reason Stock Maximizer Limiter I thought about Izotope Ozone 9 but it's too pricey for my budget looking for a good $50 limiter or less...

Otherwise you could end up spending some money and not getting what you want.
In terms of actual limiting? Fine, though doesn't limit ISPs. Feature-wise it's not much better than the MClass. Stealth Limiter is a better option at the price range, especially as it also has real Hi-res interface and doesn't look like something from the late 90s.jaeproduced wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021I just came across Waves L2 Ultramaximizer for $29 how does it stack up against Ozone, Barricade, etc? Downside is that, like with Waves, you need to use IK's proprietary licensing/installer manager stuff.
My understanding is L2 is old, and has a distinct sound, but that sound got used heavily on a lot of records in the '00s and is a bit of a classic as plugins go.jaeproduced wrote: ↑28 Apr 2021I just came across Waves L2 Ultramaximizer for $29 how does it stack up against Ozone, Barricade, etc? I applaud this suggestion. It's satisfying to hold off posting in case somebody already said something and then finding that they did. But that apparently isn't going to stop me posting entirely.
More broadly I would be interested in any considered opinions about concrete shortcomings of the inbuilt maximizer.
I just now imagined a video of an experienced mastering engineer who normally operates with tons of expensive analog gear confined to MClass and talking through reactions along the way. "OMG this is terrible because X" would be just as interesting as "Oh wow, this thing actually does Y pretty well. Huh. Who knew?"

It is crazy that they give away the ozone maximize for free so much. It was their flagship product ♂️

Limiter 6 is something I always wanted. I may get it today, I use waves L2 a lot . . No issues with it , it just works. Limiter 6 has options though, and I trust tdr products.
PSP's Xenon can be had at JRRSHOP for $24. Supposed to be similar to the L2.

From time to time I compare some of the top suggested limiters on a current project to see where they stand for the type of music I do. I strongly suggest that if you're going to bother to invest in a limiter, do a little research/comparison listening (carefully and methodically) to see which one works best for the type of music and the amount of limiting you do.
Suggestions are a great starting point, not necessarily the last word…too many variables involved, plus that pesky "personal preference" thing.
