Great update
Question: Once I have created the favorites list and tags for my devices, can I easily transfer them to my second PC?
Or do I have to create them again?

That's great to hear. This was the most important thing.
Seems like a pretty good point update.

The device metadata is stored in a plain .json-file (text based), that's called rs_user_device_metadata.json. You'll find it here:
Code: Select all
<User directory>/Music/Reason Studios/Metadata/rs_user_device_metadata.json
Since the format is text based it is also not impossible to edit them manually or create tools that combine/generate/filter etc.

Could you share json scheme file perhaps?

You can easily copy this file to the corresponding location on your other computer, and it's also compatible with both Windows and Mac.Code: Select all

We don't have a schema file for it

But the format is pretty simple and basically explains itself if you edit some device metadata in Reason and then inspect the file.
The important bit is that all custom Tags being used in the file (except for "Favorite" and "Hidden" which are hard-coded in Reason) must be listed near the beginning of the file in the "Tags" section.
Also, the DeviceID's are not always self-evident -- For REs it is the full product ID, i e the RE folder name without the version number, for example "com.roboticbean.Sequences".
For VSTs, it is the "Reason ID" as shown in the Manage Plugins window, for example "vst3.ABCDEF019182FAEB526F626F7470736E.Portatron".
But for the stock devices, the names are sometimes a bit strange for historical/compatibility reasons. So there you need to edit some metadata in Reason to figure out what they're called.
The recommended and supported(!) way to manage device metadata is of course by using the device palette in Reason -- All other methods are at your own risk, so be sure to make frequent backups of the file if you're going to play around..

This
- New context sensitive + Buttons for quickly adding devices or patches to the Rack above or below the selected device
and this
- “Split Clip at Song Position”, a new feature available on the context menu for clips (shortcut: alt/opt+X)
and this
- Metadata columns for Length and Tempo (samples, REX loops) added to the Browser
and this
- Progress indication of indexing added in Item View
and these (really big ones for me)
- The Browser now remembers Sample location when browsing Redrum and Kong sample slots
- The Browser now remembers the location of previously imported Audio File
are all excellent and should also be talked about.
Plus Chop to.... clips and Chop to.... notes are functions that I've been wanting for a long time. My only minor quibble is that I'd like an option to set the value for myself as well as bar/4th/8th/16th. But minor quibble, so minor.
You know it's encouraging this update is a clear response to a lot of the feature requests/criticism of R13 that have appeared on RT. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come and RS will be spending some more time working on some of the other QOL features that Reason also needs like ghost clips and midi freeze and the rest. Something small I'd really like to see would be the ability to split at the left and right markers as well as or instead of the song position.
In the meantime I'm gonna be playing with the randomising player, that looks like so much fun.

Also a big +1 for custom tags and tagging devices. Looks like RS took their time to do this right and from my cursory play this afternoon it seems to be implemented really well. Reason Studios is far from perfect but hell, let's give them props when they deserve.
See what I did there? Give them props? Geddit? Funny, right? I'll be here til Thursday.

You can use Chop to Snap Value, or Grid, I forget what it's called! But yeah, thatrorystorm wrote: ↑16 Dec 2024This

looks good. I might actually upgrade. for those who already have it, can we put combinators in these new favorites tabs too?
i think that's my only hesitation now. because i always create intruments inside of a pre-made combinator

Looks pretty great really. As someone who thought there just wasn't enough in V13, it's more appealing now definitely.
I can't help but wonder if the waiting to announce/release V13 now, with all these added features would've made a bigger impact/invited less of the "there's not enough in this update to justify to price" comments.
I saw the new devices in the Beta forum (despite not being able to test beta's any longer due to being on V12, and didn't think much of them, but after watching the videos, they do seem fun and interesting.

Cool
I'm not a big Browser user but tidying things up seems a good thing. More control in the Devices list is a good thing too.
The new Players are cool. Again, don't really play that way but hey, can't while about more tools and the Velo remapping is welcome as it a simpler Tranpose.
A single Player (system) for global Key Scale might be nice.

I like the new + add device above/below the selected device as honestly, the right-click menu was now a bit of a PITA with apparent double-up of "Effect" etc leading to wrong clicks. This + is a lot more streamlined.
There's an issue tho in certain contexts where what happened and made reasonable sense now doesn't feel sensible at all based don't the expectation from the revised context. Example:
Under the Master section adding an Effect auto-wired it to the next available Send-Return. Sensible enough seeing we probably clicked in the empty Rack area.
Now clicking the + on the bottom of Reverb on Send 1 to add an EQ for the Reverb, one ends up with the EQ wired as Send 2. Same behavior (and one should perhaps use Shift here to avoid wiring). BUT with the emotional context of that + attached to the Reverb, and not the Rack in general, it no longer makes great sense to wire the new device anywhere but to the Reverb as a chain.

Is anyone else having long wait times for the Reason 13.1 browser to resync everything on a Windows 10 machine?

Not that long, but I don't have many patches.StephenHutchinson wrote: ↑17 Dec 2024Is anyone else having long wait times for the Reason 13.1 browser to resync everything?

Combinator patches can be organized in the Browser by adding them to Favorites lists or as top level Shortcuts.

I think that depends more on the size of the content being indexed and the types of disks (HDD/SDD, internal/external etc) being used than the OS.StephenHutchinson wrote: ↑17 Dec 2024Is anyone else having long wait times for the Reason 13.1 browser to resync everything on a Windows 10 machine?
The first scan can take a while (since we have updated the format in the index database we need to recreate it from scratch after the upgrade), but subsequent rescans should be much faster.

R13 is going in the right direction, but there are still quite few steps left (like track folders, track freeze, detachable browser, etc.) to then make 13.2 a really good version.

I've suspected, for the last couple of versions, that much of the work has been in patching up (or redoing) things that have been on the to-do list for a LONG time to bring the basics up to parity, like high res graphics, improved multi-core performance. Even the browser - divisive as it may be - is more modern than what we had before, IMHO. Whether or not I can dock it I can actually find the sounds that Reason comes with now. But I would like to dock it. Even if the docked version is simplified, and we can use the pop out version to do things like bulk tag editing.
I like to think that we're kind of at the top of that hill, and even the fact that we got a couple of small sequencer improvements might suggest that they have a stable platform now to build on. If we can get auto chop and note preview on arrow nudge in .1, then why not...MIDI note chase in .2? Why not a new probability tab in the tools area in .3 or 5 or whatever? I'm full of naive hope and childlike optimism lol it keeps me young
I think it's a good update though. And it's nice to see largely positive reactions. Those device favs were really important, it turned out. Quite a misstep removing them for a major update, but hopefully it'll improve the way usage data and feedback is collected in future.

I'm happy now they removed them...which seemed to set into motion the development of something much betterchimp_spanner wrote: ↑17 Dec 2024Those device favs were really important, it turned out. I still miss a way to group devices and content together, but maybe someday we can have global search that shows results across the app for shared tags.
