I just upgraded to R13 (for context, I have had Reason since version 2, so looooooong time, extremely familiar with it)

If I try to create a send effect the usual way, right clicking, choose 'create send FX in the menu'. It opens the browser, which currently only displays patches, and I cannot change it to any other type of object, the blue box in the upper left is set to patches and cannot be changed.

So instead of the expected list of VST plugins and REs, all I can see is a huge long list of patches that I have no use for whatsoever. (everything appears as it should in the device pallet, so obviously Reason knows where everything is)

I read somewhere about deleting the reasonindex_v7.dat and restarting Reason, but this doesn't change anything.

Is this correct behaviour? Surely the browser should also display plugins :-o

It does, see the tabs on the top, however right-clicking and then choosing units directly is much better in many cases. That's where effects are sorted so much faster.

There is only one tab at the top, which is Effect Patches. No other tabs and no way to change the one labelled Effect Patches. So you can filter by category, tags, choose a location etc. but it's only patches.

Worst-case I can just ignore the browser entirely, hopefully there's a way to keep it from popping up :-( Just seems very silly.

Just to be clear - this happens when I want to create a send effect - the browser pops in and has a red banner at the top saying create send effects. If I just open the browser normally, it does have the other tabs :-o

Yes it's a matter of choosing the work flow you prefer. Google maps tells me where to drive but with experience I know many better ways. ;)
