Recently all Reason files/patches on my PC lost their icons in my custom patch folder. When I would click them I was hit with the "Open with..." dialogue. So I clicked Reason 12. Now all of my files use the generic reason logo, despite being an extension for a specific instrument.

Is there a solve?

Uninstall and reinstall of the Reason version you want to use should fix this.

The uninstall then reinstall did not fix the issue unfortunately.

Are there any other suggestions?

Ill try to keep this short but i'm going to try to explain what is happening.

1. Reason stopped displaying icons for device extensions in my browser. (similar to this post: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7534398&p=663911&hi ... ng#p663911)
2. I used "Open with..." function for 2 of my extensions (.thor, .cmb) and set to Reason 12 app. THIS IS A BIG MISTAKE
3. Reason 12 app icon replaced Thor and Combinator icons on all saved files on PC
4. This is hard to remove this choice once its made, but I followed steps here (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 1856af5eb3) to try to remove the Default app association for the file types, with R12 uninstalled.
4.5. Upon doing this, the "Preferences>Open with:" section now references an "Unknown application" as opposed to "Pick an app" for healthy/untouched filetypes.
5. Reinstalling restored the UN"Open With(ed)..." file extensions.
6. Properties for .thor and .cmb display as pictured below, "Unknown application". I have also shown extensions for icons displaying properly for when the reinstall restores them, "Pick an app".

Uninstalled:

Its probably a dumb Windows thing, but it sucks it was a Reason issue leading to this bigger issue.

Any insight would be great. Thanks

The file type associations are supposed to take over from the previous app/version and icons when the installer runs.

Potential confusion: When you uninstall a version of Reason, it deletes the file type associations.
Reinstall should always restore it.
Could be a user / security / permissions issue in the Windows registry root, where such things are stored?

Another possibility is that the reset / clearing of file associations has somehow created "overrides" for the regular ones.
Reason installer registers file associations in the HKLM / local machine part of the registry. There is also the HKCU / current user part which has priority, I think.
Then you may have to reset / clear more stuff before the associations added by Reason are active.

I think I may have run into this problem after uninstalling previous reason versions off of my computer. now combinator and rack extention patches inside Reason 12 are showing as a blank icon with the .cmb or .repatch file extention. did you ever find a fix for this problem?

thx. it's just slightly annoying tbh. especially since I was tying to clean up my harddrive, and maybe upgrade to 13. Now I'm wondering if this bug will persist after the upgrade

Uninstall everything. Then search for everything Reason, Propellerheads related and delete that too. Then install 13 and you’ll be fine.
