I don't think Reason is the DAW you should be using if you want AI

AI can be used for:

1. Audio separation (and is even being added to the MPC).
2. Audio restoration.
3. Generation of new instrument sounds.
4. Generation of new audio samples.
... and much more.

Would be cool just don't call it ai. There's nothing intelligent about that stuff. Anyways I would love some patch similarity search thing. Or partnering with the Sonic charge guy again and implementing patch generation from samples like synplant does but using all of reasons synthesis capabilities. Things like that would be fantastic to have.

there’s really only two areas I cannot wait for AI to assist me with (sorry PhillO! 😅)—drum programming and vocal pitch editing. those are the biggest bottlenecks in my process. I want to be able to program a pattern for kick, snare, hat, and maybe some toms, and have an algorithm automate timing and velocity—and possibly add or remove stuff to make it sound even more believable. and I want to be able to do it within the DAW, not another editor (EZDrummer 3 does the rest natively very well already, but integrating that workflow into my DAWs gets clunky).

then there’s vocal pitch editing… I want good, transparent pitch editing—like what’s available in Reason or Cubase, but without having to meticulously do everything manually. I like the workflow in both as much as it’s possible to like something you hate to do, but if AI can help do an initial pass and get a vocal 90% there—transparently—before I even have to do anything, that would be a HUGE win.

beyond that, I’d just need it to make me a better guitarist, and I don’t think that’s gonna happen. 😆

if/when I get those things, I imagine there will be a lot more music coming out a lot more quickly. 😁

Let AI listen to all your presets, including your VST collection, then auto tag all of them to their DNA level. Describe what you want to hear in the prompt box. Reason 15 Pro Max AI + will create a custom Combinator for you in no time. As long as it's in the flute/kazoo family.

Thinking about it, I'd love RS adding an AI to help do the tedious stuff - for example creating and editing of complex combinator patches (multi-instrument, parallel processing, multi-band processing, etc.) which are a headache in Reason compared to Live or Bitwig. But it would have to be really clever about it, understanding how to patch multiple - often 3rd party - devices. Not holding my breath.

An AI bot that give you valuable production advice like:

* Your snare sounds like shit!
* Needs more bass/cowbell!
* That melody does not work with those chords
* Have you considered taking a break (and starting all over)?
etc.

I love what Synplant 2 is doing, basically a tireless assistant that listens to all of your feedback/input (aka: machine leaerning), and then gives you 3-4 of the closest options. It should learn from watching you work and make suggestions base on that - as any good studio assistant does.

This should of course include knowing your entire patch/sample library as well as all of your past choices (including knowing which choices got replaced later). It should also know what your typical “next step” might be at any point, and allow a “one click” option to follow that path at any point (an idea I’ve wanted all software to have for many years now).

But I agree, the last thing you want from an assistance is intelligence… ;)

The generative music stuff will become very real, and useful for background music for ads, elevators etc. Stock music musicians will be left empty handed.

The sound generation stuff is cool, but provides a marginal difference from what we already have from services like Splice.

Where I think the future lies with this stuff is a more like a collab /producer assistant. It will listen to the music you're making while you're making it. Physically turn down the level of your kick if it is too loud. Reduce the transient of the snare if it is eating up too much headroom. Suggest intruments to use that will fit your mix. Suggest a good chord progession to fit a particular moment in your arrangement. "Hey, here's a drum fill that I think will fit really well here."

No more mixing it circles. No more writers block. That sort of thing.
