I have some feeling, that there are important sequencer updates on the horizon.

What do you think?

You're talking about the rack extension by Skrock right?

I have a good feeling, they will do it now. Graphics, M1 and VST3 is fixed, new devices already pblished, fast browser developed so far.

The time is now. :lightbulb:

I would welcome the sequencer being included in RRP so you could use pattern select tracks.

I'm also hopeful but very skeptical.
Any quality of life updates which make working on full productions in Reason easier are highly appreciated, but my feeling is that they prioritize quite heavily the stuff that also benefits the Reason Rack Plugin.

ok maybe VST's aren't future anymore. maybe reason becomes the first combined DAW + streaming platform. maybe even real-time collaboration?

Definitely.
I have to give it to RS. Their color science is top level. 16 brand new feel good colors for our eyes to feast on all day.

Track folders and proper track freeze. Also the possibility to layer blocks would be very useful.

I’ve been asking for track freeze for years. I’ve no idea why it doesn’t have it.

I'm moving this to the Rack Extension subforum (I'm joking)
Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.

I think Props considers the "Bounce In Place" function to be an adequate substitute for Freeze. (It's not).

A proper track freeze feature would be nice, but I guess for me, bounce in place works well enough for now to give higher priority to other features on the list.

Bounce in place is not a poor man's freeze because there is no equivalent unfreeze. The whole point of track freeze is that you can unfreeze it to get back to the point before you froze it, complete with all relevant instruments and effects back in the rack. Freeze without unfreeze is just mixing/bouncing down to audio. Freeze allows you to make songs/tunes with more stuffz than your CPU can cope with but still be able to get back to a particular track to do more editing if you choose.

I'm not very optimistic that RS will implement it. They don't seem big on listening to requests/suggestions.

Bounce in Place doesn't delete the original track or any of the devices. You can still 'unfreeze' and return to where you left off. It's just not as convenient as say Logic, where it's a simple button click to unfreeze.

PLUS, there is no "freeze" for the devices no longer in use. Muting the MIDI track does help but you also want to totally unload the CPU for the feature to be 100% IMO. Mix "versions" could also help here as an alternative way to achieve the same thing, saving a version with the frozen tracks devices deleted. This is also where a more robust import/export feature would be helpful so you could pick and choose which version of which instrument you wanted to import back into your current 'master'. But alas, some basic sequencer workflow updates would also be appreciated…
