"libmp3lame.dll is not found"

I got the free upgrade to 12.6, and upon installation it crashes with the message that libmp3lame.dll is not found. I tried re-installing Reason, didn't help. I now can't start it, and I can't re-install it. Both starting Reason and starting the installer crashes with that same message. Also tried old installers, didn't help. Can't even install Reason 10 or 11 anymore, always crashes with that error message.
And it seems support by email is no longer there? The support link on the website just goes to a bunch of articles. Not good, not good, ...

Companion seems to be related to Reason+. I don't use that, I only have the stand-alone.

I was able to find libmp3lame.dll on the web, and I placed it in the Reason 12 directory. There was already a file libmp3lame-0.dll. After I copied a "fresh" libmp3lame.dll into the Reason 12 directory I was able to run the installer again. But now I still can't start Reason 12, I get the error message "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)".

It sounds like a bit of confusion here.
I can help with a few facts. libmp3lame.dll comes with the Reason 12.6 installer for Windows. In earlier versions of Reason (I think it was before 12.5), the file was called libmp3lame-0.dll.
You don't need to look for any file on the internet, and you can not add this file to the installer anyway - it is packed into the installer executable and is always installed along with all the other files.
If Reason complains about libmp3lame.dll being missing, then the installer must not have succeeded completely, or you are running a different version of Reason, perhaps partially uninstalled already, or something like that. I would recommend you uninstall it and install again, and maybe download the installer again.
If you still have trouble getting Reason 12 to run, please describe the trouble with details and screenshots, and attach to a support request here: https://help.reasonstudios.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

You could try to copy libmp3lame-0.dll to libmp3lame.dll as it might be the correct dll but with a still wrong file name from a failed installation attempt (due to Windows crappy file system locking mechanism).ChordMaster wrote: ↑14 May 2023I was able to find libmp3lame.dll on the web, and I placed it in the Reason 12 directory. The two similar DLLs are not the same, I can't recommend trying to fix things by fiddling with files in the app directory.
Before you ask for help from RS, please reinstall.
If there are errors, reboot and try again.
If there is still an error during install or when trying to start the app, please take screenshots and include with your support request.

Another idea just came to my mind: It might be that some anti-virus program is blocking the installation/access to libmp3lame.dll (false positive detection). You could try to check the AV log for suspicious entries or to disable the AV before installing Reason.
Also - as jengstrom suggested - contacting support with a reasonable amount of details could help.

Before you reinstall, ensure that Reason is not running in the background anymore. Just check your task manager or uninstall and ensure installation folder is empty.

I confirm that a new "from the ground up" has worked. What I did was:
- delete the 12.6 installer file
- download 12.6 installer file again
- uninstall Reason 12.6
- uninstall Reason 12.5
- uninstall Reason 10
- run 12.6 installer
But I don't think this should have happened. And this must be new for 12.6, because libmp3lame.dll is new in Reason 12.6.

I did not knowingly (consciously, intentionally, deliberately, ...) run the authorizer. If it runs automatically as part of the first start-up after installation, then it probably ran. Does the stand-alone, local, version run the authorizer? Again, I'm not on Reason+, I have the locally installed stand-alone version. I did not have to run an authorizer manually.
I also ran the RE sync tool, and all my REs were still there, nothing to do. All good now.

sounds perhaps like a file or directory permissions problem (read / write permissions). Just a guess, I don't know Win all that well. I know that on Win the Administrator user can set / remove read and write permissions for files and directories, that may explain why unwritable things may show up grayed out in visual dialogs. But again, just a guess, I'm not a Win guy.

Perhaps you could try a fresh installation of 12.5.x. In retrospect I find that my upgrade to 12.6 was not needed at all, it added complications without adding new features or performance benefits. Perhaps you don't need 12.6 and can live with 12.5.
