I highly recommend to use a SSD, which can be more than 100 times faster. Something which takes 30h on a old HDD can be finished in 10 minutes.
I'd say about 10 to 20 times faster.
A slow HDD reads 5MB/s. My SSD, which is quite old and slow compared to modern SSDs, reads 500MB/s.

A modern SSD can read up to 5GB. Without an array.

Yeah and you will not find a HDD that slow in an i7 with 16GB RAM.

I don't know what HDD she has. I can only assume something between very old and support slow or modern and faster.

So, what exactly is wrong with "can be 100 times faster"?

You're evading my statement.

It just seems that there would be an expense to getting SSD, etc. and since my computer is 4+ years old it might help to get a new one--

Your (current) computer may be 4 years old, but your (current) CPU performs about the same as my 10+ year old CPU - which I consider outdated and slow AF. According to CPU Benchmark, that Acer's CPU performs pretty good for a cheap laptop:

SSD's are pretty fast, and cheap to buy. They do fail sooner than regular drives I've read, A new one might help a bit.
I use a number of them. Internal and External.Mine is almost 3 years old from purchase new.I have not noticed any slow down so far....I bought that model as it seemed to be the recommended Mac at the time for reason( after researching)... but I found they have a problem with faulty logic boards. 3 died in less then 3 years, and a power supply... they don't make things like they used to... I still have 20 year old Macs that still work... A little slow though lol.. :puf_wink:

sonja's current processor scores worse CPU Marks than my 11 year old desktop (which is painfully slow), so I'd suggest looking into a newer modern machine IMHO. Money on an SSD would be better spent towards that, IMHO.

I'm curious if you got this sorted out Sonja?
There's a new patch (12.5.1d41) that fixes a problem where Reason won't load...perhaps that addresses the issue you were seeing.

Yes and everything has been fine until now. For some reason the Dr. Rex loops won't load, only one will load. If I choose another one it just loads in that first box (loop 1). To load anymore I have to make a whole other Dr. Rx. Not how it usually works.
