Re: Thoughts on Reason DAW standalone: new life?

Strangely I see it more that rs still have main focus on the daw in r12. Workflow wise the new combi has drag and drop assignment which does not work in RRP. Hi res benefits both daw and RRP users too.huggermugger wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022I haven't been paying attention recently, but the main enhancements brought to us in R12 primarily benefitted the RRP, with very little improvement if any specific to the standalone. To me, this indicates where their priorities lie, even if they do throw us standalone users a bone now and then. The one major update that would specifically benefit the standalone is the most controversial one - VST3. We're nearing the middle of November, a year and four months since the R12 beta was prematurely let out of the bag, and still we've seen nothing but a roadmap that seems to wander aimlessly into the desert towards a mirage.

That makes me happy. I love the Reason DAW.EnochLight wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022So, anyone else noticed that the last two promotional/tutorial videos promoted by Reason Studios featured Reason as a standalone DAW? No RRP in sight.
In particular, “How to make REX Loops” on November 7, 2022 and now “From Raw Chord Progressions to Full Songs with Chord Sequencer” on November 8 both featured Reason DAW proper. I like this direction.
That's fine, but the extent to which it is behind means that most people are still going to be better off just racking it into another DAW. The best thing about Reason was always the players and synths. The Sequencer was never it. I don't think I'll ever have a reason to upgrade off of Reason 12.EnochLight wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022So, anyone else noticed that the last two promotional/tutorial videos promoted by Reason Studios featured Reason as a standalone DAW? Reason has always been in this situation but what makes it great is that they have always had their own way of thinking about what the future is about and although it's not entirely what you want it's always been useful to a different audience at the detriment to long term supporters who quite frankly have started moving into other daw's.iTrensharo wrote: ↑12 Nov 2022I do feel like the entire produce will end up backed between a "rock and a hard place."
Disagree. Both the rack paradigm and Reason’s sequencer (and the rack’s deep integration - Players or otherwise) are its USP. We can scream all day until we’re blue about Reason’s missing sequencer features, but I still find the environment more inspiring to work in compared to any other DAW out there.iTrensharo wrote: ↑12 Nov 2022That's fine, but the extent to which it is behind means that most people are still going to be better off just racking it into another DAW. Perhaps. I think the pressure these days is much higher than a decade ago, due to how costs have been driven down.Billy+ wrote: ↑12 Nov 2022Reason has always been in this situation but what makes it great is that they have always had their own way of thinking about what the future is about and although it's not entirely what you want it's always been useful to a different audience at the detriment to long term supporters who quite frankly have started moving into other daw's.iTrensharo wrote: ↑12 Nov 2022I do feel like the entire produce will end up backed between a "rock and a hard place."
I'm hoping that the next major version brings the sequencer features into this century and starts supporting the standalone daw as well as the plugin version is supported in other daw's but until those who stair it's direction start realising that us long term supporters are sick of being left behind and have moved to different daws are the main marketing force they are continually going to repeat the mistakes of the past and Reason will become nothing but a subscription plugin.
And if that's their goal then shame on them.
The sequencer is what it is in every other DAW. Increasingly the market is divorced from the expectation for software to emulate hardware (in terms of UX). That is a selling point, but it is prioritized by decreasing numbers of people.EnochLight wrote: ↑13 Nov 2022Disagree. Well, except Live. It comes close.
