Whenever I delete the label on a combinator button, I find that later on I cannot click and type a new name because it seems the "label" itself has dissapeared. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix?

You don't have to delete a label, you can uncheck show label at the control properties.
-------
Analog tape ⇒ ESQ1 sequencer board ⇒ Atari/Steinberg Pro24 ⇒ Atari/Cubase ⇒ Cakewalk Sonar ⇒ Orion Pro/Platinum ⇒ Reaper ⇒ Reason DAW.

Okay thanks , but once I've deleted a label, is there any way to re-instate it?

In fact, when you delete a label, Reason automatically uncheck the control.
So, you just need to check again "Show label"

Didn't know that (I don't delete labels), but that is actually a pretty clever implementation.
