Hi,

Recently I have noticed I am having issues with Reason and glitches in the tempo (not being stable).

My situation:
Dell Inspiron 15 7577
Windows 10 64b
Reason 11.4
Roland MC-707 as interface (ASIO driver)

How I test
I'm running a Redrum pattern of 1 bar 115 BPM.
No effects.
I'm recording this on a Zoom H1 recorder.
This wav file is imported on a timeline with the same tempo and here you notice that every now and then the kick shifts back.
Not like small steps every time, but jumps every now and then.

So here you see 2 kicks that are on time and then it shifts a little.

This (unfortunately) happens irregularly and not in a predictable pattern.
Sometimes it is 15 minutes between jumps, sometimes only 1 minuten.

I have tried the same test in Reaper, but that is steady as a rock. (same laptop)

Analysis so far
I have tried setting Windows to maximum performance.
Unfortunately it is almost impossible to diagnose if there is a process that is causing this, since I'm first recording and later checking the accuracy of the tempo.
So it is not like 'realtime'.
I tried using a 707 and Reason (unlinked) together, but they have a small difference in tempo, causing them to misaligne quickly which makes it hard to do this by ear..

Anybody ever encountered this?
And what are things I can test / do / check / change?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Does this also happen on an exported audio file? If so it would be something that's related to the Reason song file/session and not something that is caused by some other task causing a delay.

For settings: Check if Hyper-threading is on in preferences and if it is try to turn it off.

I will check the first one.
But hyper threading is ON indeed.
I will make another test without it.

Unfortunately.
The export of the audio file was perfect.
So it is really in the playback.

And hyperthreading OFF looked ok for the first 50 minutes, but after that it went bad again.
Very bad actually.
I was not doing anything on the PC and energy settings were set to not do anything either.
So unfortunately I have to do more testing.

Update : when I use my Roland MC-707 as a master clock. Reason is stable.
So something (on my laptop) is making the internal clock unstable when playing back a reason project.

That's an interesting find, my brother has a few hardware boxes including the mc707 and he had loads of trouble getting them to sync (with live) I kept telling him to just by a dedicated clock but he managed to get it all working by using the 707 as the master with a simple little midi splitting box (I can't remember what it was exactly called)

It is not just your system. I've noticed it while using Record way back when. Since then I always use the same master clock (good old, but faithful motif) and Reason is solid when I track my hardware.
Although it wasn't the case for me, check out if you are not running software like Steam or the Epic store while using/tracking with Reason.
