Last minute update advice?

Hello all!
I currently own Reason 10 and I'm also on the 3 month R+ subscription for 3 euros.
I'm quite happy with Reason 10 and even there are tons of stuff for me to learn and explore. I'm a turntablist musician and most of work is just audio recording. I might add a drum machine, effect or a synth here and there. I have had thoughts on jumping to Logic at some point for better audio editing and Logic Remote.
Now that the upgrade prices are going up I'm just thinking will I lose the value of my Reason 10 license. Continuing with R+ would make my 10 useless and I think there's not much resale value either. Then again paying 129 euros for features that I can happily live without sounds a bit odd. Mimic is cool but I have BM3 and Koala on iOS for my sampling needs. So would upgrading now make sense and I would have the option to sell my Reason 12 and buy Logic and maybe then use R+ if I want to. I don't know anything about the market as far as selling Reason goes and I'm not a known guy in any forums (I assume people would prefer buying from known guys).
Any wise and friendly advice is appreciated. Thanks!

If you can live without it then I guess you've already got the answer
If you're already looking at selling it then again it's looking more like you don't actually want it
If you're looking for a long term Reason standalone user to help change your mind and tell you to buy it unfortunately I'm not going to be that person as I won't be upgrading from R11 anytime soon but I'm sure that others will tell you to go for it.
Maybe you should consider using R10 and holding out for cheap R12 subscription deals in the future to see if you want it then?

simple if you are only using reason to record audio and occasionally adding a synth or drum machine then there is absolutely no reason to stay with reason. because that you can do in any DAW

I would actually consider your operating system as part of the equation. If you're on MacOS, there's a good chance you have a Retina Display, and your next Mac will almost certainly have an Apple Silicon CPU, both big selling points (current and roadmap) of Reason 12. Conversely, if you're on Windows, and you use a standard-DPI monitor, that's two big selling points that are of no use.
I'm on MacOS and am planning to replace my eight-year-old MacBook Pro as soon as the M1X comes out, so I bought the 12 upgrade (although I may not install it until I have a new laptop).

If you like the simplicity of something like Redrum (it was fantastic for me in the early days because of how straight forward it is) consider the upgrade in order to get the Reason Rack plugin which will allow you to use Reason devices in pretty much any DAW in future.
I think for someone who isn’t particularly tied to the Reason DAW it’s a fantastic feature.

If you decide to upgrade for $129, you'll still have 30 days to decide to return it (at least if purchased through Reason Studios...not sure how every retailer handles it). I think that is a great option for anybody on the fence.

lol, maybe Black Friday 2022...I don't think even Reason Studios is that stupid to go deep discount like that so soon after launch...
(tho' maybe May Madness/Summer Sale is a possiblity...)
(Enoch!!!! Do you have your calender set yet? I have predicted that half price Reason upgrade sale before the end of 2022 a few times already on the forum ... )
I'll throw my guess out there too 🧐
I'll guess the (first) sale price after the price increase will be $149. May madness.
The sale price before was just shy of 25% off ($99 marked down from $129). So my guess is 25% off of $199 for $149.

No such a thing as a good last minute update advice.

May Madness this year was 30% off. Upgrade was 90 bucks.

So.. I expect extremely deep discounts in the future.

Hmmmm. I see
That was the lowest at the end of the R11 run. Ok so my guess stands at $149 for May Madness. It will then be on sale winter 2022 for $139.
Ouch. I'm as poor as poor gets in my country/state and I just bought it

If you barely use any of the deeper features of a DAW, it seems not worth sinking any more money than you already have.
Logic is fine (I am sure) but generally requires the purchase of a decent Apple and then Logic itself. If you already have said boat anchor then Logic is good value (on the $ scale). I will Q if Logic's Audio Editing is really better than Reason? Unless it does something that Reason cannot then it is probably similar. Maybe you just like how it works better.
Stepping away from R+ should have no impact on your R10 license. You will lose the 12 and + features but not the R10 stuff (and any REs) that you own forever.
As for selling R10, I have no idea. Many seem to see Reason as a free shot to the gronk nuks, Challenge Round if you will, which means that there is a lot of one-eyed and largely needless negativity out there which may drive the price down. Remember too you can not sell any REs so be sure not to advertise them or you will get called out as dodgy.
What you do is your call, but based on what I see here, moving or changing anything doesn't seem to make a lot of sense when a) there is so much you can do/learn with what you already have in R10 - assuming you want to grow in DAWishness, b) you seem to have what you want/need already.

If I spend any Bitcoin, while it's down, I'll regret it.
Reason doesn't make my money grow..... yet.

I bit the Tiger by the balls and just upgraded to 12 for the $129. Oh Well!
i also updated maybe the last time in a while for now 2 weeks ago. but i updated with the "FORUM" code on jrrshop. what basically cost me roughly 100€ after the conversion from $ to € with paypal.
you could still use R10 and wait until the big bulk of updates and bugfixes are done.

One thing I don't get about having multiple versions of Reason on the same machine... How it works ? I mean, If you have installed R10 and then install R12 in Windows ....they don't clash each other with sound banks, authorizer or rack extensions issues, etc ?dan_g wrote: ↑30 Sep 2021i also updated maybe the last time in a while for now 2 weeks ago. but i updated with the "FORUM" code on jrrshop. what basically cost me roughly 100€ after the conversion from $ to € with paypal.

for me it still works as always when starting reason 10. no idea how this works. the only thing i got when updating to 12 that the REs got the hi-res update but still working normal in R10. must me some sort of extra folder in Appdata for the Version defining Stuff
the only thing to keep in mind, don't open something in R12 that you still want to work on in R10. make a copy first to keep your R10 version. that way when you decide to not use R12 you still have your tracks (althogh in an earlier state) in R10.

Wow! Thanks for great insights. I decided to be a grown up for a change and use what I got instead of wanting the latest thing. Just as I thought I've won the battle against wanting new things I came home to read news about SP-404mk sampler. Oh boy..
Same here, except for the tiger balls part!Biolumin3sc3nt wrote: ↑30 Sep 2021I bit the Tiger by the balls and just upgraded to 12 for the $129. Oh Well!

FYI, the new pricing has so far only gone into effect at reasonstudios.com. Sweetwater, Thomann, and JRRShop all still show the old prices.
