Youtuber tries Reason 12 for the first time and tries to make acid techno
I’ve always thought ‘you know what music needs more of? FLOWCHARTS’.
interesting video though—always cool seeing people have fun playing around.

Yeah definitely interesting to see someone who knows what they are doing discovering Reason 10 versions later and seeing them like the stuff we take for granted
This is why you can't replace Reason. The fun factor is over 9000!!!!!!

was fun but he was really trying hard to make to buy his techno curses
I quite like Oscars videos and learnt a fair bit about some of abletons effects I rarely use from his techno vids. Was good to see him using reason and enjoying it. Most techno based YouTube vids are using ableton so refreshing to see this.
He made a video a few weeks ago in which he explained that beginners are often overwhelmed with the settings of the synthesizers in Ableton and he therefore recommends to orient yourself on hardware synths to find out which buttons are really important. I commented that you could also just use Reason. Maybe that's what prompted him to make the video.
This is some freaking cool stuff, thanks for that.

Good watch indeed
I wonder if we are due for an acid house song comp here, we could use Monotone for the acid like the dude in the video... certainly inspiring stuff... If we kept the tempos within a reasonable range and made them reasonably dj friendly people could mix them together to make different sets

Don't forget to @ the youtuber with your best work so he can open it in Reason and, hopefully, share the RS gospel far and beyond

Even if there is not an official comp why don't we just make some acid house with reason and share it in the music section. I would be up for this if others are.Jagwah wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021Good watch indeed

Yeah there won't be an official comp but i think this would be great if done correctly. We need an actual comp to get people interested and I love the idea of people mixing the tracks aka dj style too. I'll see about making a post in the song comp forum.Popey wrote: ↑21 Sep 2021Even if there is not an official comp why don't we just make some acid house with reason and share it in the music section. I enjoyed the video. Interesting to see someone come back to Reason after a lengthy hiatus. I actually had a call from a friend last weekend who I’ve known a few years. She mainly uses Logic but I’ve been banging on about Reason for a while. Apparently she used it sometime ago but then moved on to other software. Anyway, she called up, very excited, after downloading the Reason 12 demo and giving it a test run. She was blown away! She was absolutely loving it and the immediacy of the access to sounds and the rack. She was loving Europa especially. She was planning to buy it. She’s a teacher so apparently can get a discount via Manny’s. Was great to hear such a positive take on Reason 12. A lot of negativity around. Gets a bit tiring after a while
Yeah sounds good to me if bpm is around 120-140 that would cover most styles of techno and I would be up for mixing the results like you say too.Jagwah wrote: ↑21 Sep 2021Yeah there won't be an official comp but i think this would be great if done correctly. A fun challenge to incorporate is to research some hardware, e.g. find a niche it is good at/known for, and try recreate in Reason. Add it to the mix....Popey wrote: ↑21 Sep 2021Yeah sounds good to me if bpm is around 120-140 that would cover most styles of techno and I would be up for mixing the results like you say too.Jagwah wrote: ↑21 Sep 2021

Nothing wrong with being pedantic about production. He's just being strategic.

I tend to keep creativity and strategy about as far apart as I can.Creativemind wrote: ↑21 Sep 2021Nothing wrong with being pedantic about production. He's just being strategic.

Guit, give him a break, he's not using flow charts for making music, he's using flow charts for teaching music. Big difference!
I don’t fault him for it—people should always use what works for them. I just find it funny. to me, creativity is about exploration and pushing boundaries, but if it helps him or others constrain things in ways that help get things done, have at it!PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑21 Sep 2021Guit, give him a break, he's not using flow charts for making music, he's using flow charts for teaching music. To be fair, the negativity has little to do with Reason itself, which is still, 20 years later, a unique take on music creation in the software space.Faastwalker wrote: ↑21 Sep 2021Was great to hear such a positive take on Reason 12. A lot of negativity around. Gets a bit tiring after a while
It's the people who drive the ship that are the problem.

Yeah not bad what he came up with with a Monotone Bass sounded pretty good but my initial thought for an acid bass line was SubTractor. I've also never thought of using that randomize pattern thing on the Matrix.
Did anyone else notice at the beginning he didn't say that Propellerhead is no more and that it's now called Reason Studio's haha!
He should've used the shuffle dial on ReDrum to add a bit more of a human feel to his groove too.
