It is pretty awful. The whole 'sounds like you' tag is a pile of nonsense because what it sounds like are a bunch of preset mini refills offered as 'packs' and pigeonholed into arbitrary genres that they suggest you can make a professional song from that will take the world by storm from the comfort of your bedroom at a laptop. Whoever is in charge of marketing needs to have a sit down and word with themselves.
This fits into the 'teenager who wants to be a rockstar / mumble rapper' category and I'm assuming it is where a lot of the money is, and if that is the case, I'm sure RS will be shameless in violently pursuing it.
Historically, like back at the beginning (pre 05/06 era) Reason was entry level studio software, it was the hobby software of choice. Most people were hardware users at that time and Reason was a sort of evolution of stuff like Dance Ejay and even Music 2000 on the Playstation. It was accessible to people who either couldn't afford or didn't want to spend 1000's on gear and as a result of that it grew exponentially.

The way I see it is that RS have gone back to their roots in terms of marketing and focus. Simplfy everything, make it cheap and accessible to everyone and hopefully younger people who don't have a load of expendable income or rich parents will get on board. Those people are the next generation of Reason users. The platform needs this new blood to grow otherwise it'll just wither and die along with us grumpy old buggers.

That is certainly a fair point, however there are plenty of other fair points that have been made regarding RS' direction

To be honest, I'm not convinced that is the right market for them to aim for. Most Reason users I know are more serious musicians who have established a fairly decent home studio. They (we) are the ones who are more likely to invest in software purchases, not young college students who are already struggling to pay rent and buy food.

Yup, for the most part it actually makes pleasant viewing. I can read three important things from this graph…
Honestly, I can get zero things from this graph. It’s not only a classic case of conflation (which assumes lower views = less user interest) without accounting for other variables, but also totally assumes ALL other factors are constant (they are not). As such we are not comparing apples to apples here at all, since we have no proof the view count algo has remained unchanged, and we have not accounted for other variables as well such as users leaving YouTube for tick tick etc.

Plus, we already know view counts are not “logical” (reliable) based on the 15 sec YouTube “ad” from RS getting 45k views in such a short time, which if taken similarly with the above chart would appear indicate a huge upswing in interest for Reason over the past week.

Show the stats for the other DAW, or gear of choice next to each other, the same way you did with Reason, so we have a basic point of reference, if you can.
Exactly, with no comparison there isn't much context.
I expect ZERO follow ups, replies, or more comments, but the OP can prove me wrong.

If the op could create a graph that shows views limited to 24 hours of release I think they would have a better overview of the interest generated at each point.
VST 2.4 MIDI It's definitely on the list of todos
Using Reason since version 1 is R11 going to be my final version

This is one of my favorite videos. It only has 48k views. But maybe that's because not everybody completed ALL 10 HOURS OF IT??? But then did 48k people watch all 10 hours of it to register a view? 🤔

@Ryan Harlin! I have an idea! :D It's a mashup of concepts from past videos.

You could get someone, maybe the guy from the "America Reacts" video and go on a road trip, sampling random stuff (people on the street, instruments of street performers, environmental sounds, etc.) and then create Mimic patches and songs from that material! I think that would be very fun :)

;)

friendly reminder that Reason and Fruity Loops got laughed at by professionals and tracker users / demo scene alike back in the days, yet here we are. let the kids make music however they seem fit, alright? and let RS target that peer group however they want; you, me and every other longterm user don't have to bother.
there's enough, and I mean TONS of stuff to complain about with RS in their current state. their marketing is really the least of my concerns.

That means that:
Reason 12 release notes reads the average person in 3 minutes and will be a little bit dissapointed (or more, or not at all)
Ableton Live 11 release notes reads (or not) the average person in 51 minutes ...

sorry for trolling

Anyway, i know it doesnt have much with reason studios youtube views, but try to cherry pick me all the things that ableton added to their daw by the release notes, and you think Reason need (or you just want) it.

My are
  1. it is now possible to resize the velocity, probability, and per-note expression lanes in the MIDI Editor using the mousewheel/pinch gesture while holding "ALT".
  2. It is now possible to rename multiple selected tracks simultaneously.
  3. When using the Arrow Up/Down keys with "Cmd" (Mac) / "Ctrl" (Win) held down, the values of selected velocity/probability markers are incremented by +/-10.
+ they are updating their old devices

I found these 4 things and i dont think i will jump off the Reason ship because of them.

Interesting topic, I don’t think there’s still any great ambition to surpass other DAWs.
But that's ok. Still no valuable test article in my language for R12 is also ok.

I remember being laughed out of studios with my "Lil laptop and Reason" setup back in the day. Man, times have definitely changed  I agree let the youth have their time and long time reason users should enjoy the ride and make music - that's ultimately the point right :)

Reason also came out during the dark age of music hardware: the rompler era. Software was just flat-out better than hardware at the time, and Reason upped the ante with its CPU-efficiency.

My gosh… the silly hardware vs software debates about hardware devices that were using software

Let's go back two steps, I didn't wanna impose my view on you nor telling you to stop having yours, it's just that "they're *only* catering mumble rappers these days!!!" (I'm exaggerating) couldn't be further from the truth. Music software is what you make of it, and that is all. And if easy access to sounds a la Companion is in high demand, so be it. That's just my opinion.

Personally I own more presets than I'll be able to browse in my lifetime, and I'm certain every new user will eventually come to that point as well, wether via R+ or third party stuff. But like me, they will all come to the conclusion/realization that the sound selection alone doesn't make a track; and they will all see the shortcomings of Reason as a DAW in its current state.

I've been following the discussion from the beginning, thank you, so I may as well chime in whenever I see fit. So I'd like to clarify: Reason is massively declining in popularity, *even though* they're trying everything get new users on board - my experience in other very large music communities tells me as much.
To sum it up, the efforts by RS to combat the decline in popularity isn't the root of the problem, just a symptom. It's not the mumble rappers fault. They, RS, should definitely try and I think they're doing a good job regarding the marketing efforts themselves. The root of the problem is a competition that is MILES ahead and/or cheaper, and all RS had as a response is clinging to the little money they already received and introducing a subscription model. That's not how growth works in this arms race.

Just my 2 cents (which you initially probably read more perjorative than I intended, sorry!)

Maybe older videos have more views because they've been around longer? 🤔 :D

Also, look at all those peaks! It's not like views dropped overall. That might just show that people are much more interested in content than they are into hype and announcement videos.
That's an interesting point. So you're suggesting that no one cares about upgrading anymore? Or as much? Personally, I don't care about upgrading as much either, but if I get an email from a company and they have a new product/upgrade YT vid, I'd check out the content to see if it was worth my while to upgrade. (well, I'd still wait out for a sale, cheap-ass that I am  )
