I just don't understand why ReGroove completely ignores the colour scheme.

My guess is that there's another GUI update. Maybe ReGroove will look better when it matches the rest of the GUI.

I think the ReGroove background is a little too dark. It looks like the same colour as the separator bar, which might be why it feels out of place because the design language implied by the rest of the GUI says that that colour should be for separators.

I'm reserving judgement on R12 as it's not really released in my eyes. This is a paid early access preview, so I'd expect many of the major complaints to be ironed out by February/March.

Just wanted to flag this: is anybody finding that when the Re-Groove mixer light is ON - ie. orange, the groove is in fact OFF?

I've only tested this on channel A1, because I have FUNKEY D on some Drums on A1, and they become considerably less FUNKY when the light is ON...

Finding this a bit puzzling, TBH

Cheers,

Jamie
Searched this thread to see if anyone else had pointed this out already.
Who the hell decided that it would be a good idea to indicate that the groove channel is OFF by having the ON button be lit up? The overall design difference doesn't matter that much to me but this change just doesn't make any sense.
I just did exactly the same thing.
To me this seems a clear mistake: if you highlight ON then it should be on, not off! In the same way, if you highlight EDIT, then that should be the lane you edit (as indeed it is).
the use of orange highlight signifies the exact opposite thing on two neighbouring switches.

I'm going to report a bug.

Any my own view on the aesthetic: I don't mind one bit if things move on, become flatter over time etc. There are plenty of other greys in the rack main gui though, so I do wonder why they chose one that is so much darker than anything else!

Don't bother its already been fixed.

As per Mattias on Reddit, a new stable point update should come out any day now.

Shouldn´t the choosable answers be:

- No, I prefer the old design
- Yes, I prefer the new design

? :D

I heard back from Reason Studios. The orange on/off is the wrong way round - it is a bug. They say it will be fixed in an upcoming Reason 12 release.

I love the new look of ReGroove Mixer. Flat design goes well with transport design as it is technically a tool and not Rack device.

I would also love to see main mixer to get some similiar Dark mode treatment.
Dark mode mixer +1, a very dark blue with contrast white markings/text. Black dials etc. Would be lovely.

Furthermore, "looking good" should never be understated. It is one of the most important elements of not only marketing but also user satisfaction. And it shows, in classic instruments and tools. Really well-designed usable UI's are also timeless and good-looking, because the rules they follow are pleasing to pattern-seeking animals like us. See the thread on the MiniMoog UI for a really nice example.
Yeah it's one of the major things Reason has going for it. Great gui.

Hilarious that you've referenced a video that applauds Reason Studios for not being too dogmatic with their design language and changing it when needed, after you've spent the whole thread slating RS for daring to change their design. Amazing irony, well done.

The update we've all been waiting for or just a bug fix one or don't you know?

EDIT - Oh sorry just seen the screenshot above.

I don't care for the new look of the regroove mixer at all, like someone else said Abeltoonish...(Cartoon Abelton MIxer). The new regroove mixer looks completely out of place.
What I don't understand is why make changes to a tried and true device? What additional functionality did we gain by this facelift rework? What am I missing here? Please help me understand this point.
I agree, regardless of whether it's your taste or not, why change the graphics? it's been that way for 14 years so you're used to it. I know yes, the transport bar was changed in Reason 8 (2014 I think).

So you could argue why are films the way they are, watching them on a screen, may as well watch a stick man cartoon lol!
not sure what point you’re attempting to make here. films have used both 2d and 3d to great effect since forever. have you ever seen Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Yes.

Why did Edward Kiy get banned. Don't think I've ever seen that before.

I am curious too. I don't see anything criminal in his latest history.
