Rewire. What and how?
I’ve heard about rewire since a long time but every time I thought about what it might be I just started thinking about other stuff instead. So...the only thing I know about it really is that it’s like putting cabling between Reason so you can record it into another DAW. So without me having to open TFM, fund the bit in TFM and then RTFM can anyone tell me...
1. Does the other DAW have to have a “rewire” option and if so do most of the major DAWs have one?
2. It’s just audio from Reason which gets recorded on the track in the 2nd DAW right?
Thanks. I know I could just get 11...but I don’t want to.
Edit: Uh...10 still has rewire doesn’t it?

Pretty much all the main DAWs support Rewire.
Reason (before R11) is a Rewire slave. Run the Master DAW first, insert a Rewire track (method varies by DAW) then start Reason.
Any Midi notes you put on the Rewire track in the Master are sent to Reason and Reason sends audio back into that track.
So it behaves very much like a VST except you have to manually start Reason separately to the DAW and you have to load up a song/project into both each time (compared with the VST where it saves all of the settings with the rest of the song).
It works well, but screen real estate can become an issue.

Did you see the bit where you can get 11.3 Lite for free then install 11.2 Lite which restores many of the instruments but keeps the RRP? It's in one of the recent threads.
Not sure we'll get to R23. By then it will probably be a semicolon in the portfolio of Apple, or Steinberg (or Magix lol)
...does that mean that you can then use the RRP and it’s got all the stuff which they removed?DaveyG wrote: ↑03 Jul 2020Did you see the bit where you can get 11.3 Lite for free then install 11.2 Lite which restores many of the instruments but keeps the RRP? It's in one of the recent threads.

I’ve got Lite 10.
Or does it mean that I can have 11.2 as a DAW with all the stuff and 11.3 as an RRP without all the stuff?

I read one of them but it sounded like 11.2 (Lots of devices) DAW and 11.3 (limited devices) RRP.
Couldn’t find another thread. This was the free at PB thread.

“The freebie is over”. ???? What??? Should run until the end of July.

R10 is ReWiring great into Live 10 still.
Now that RS dropped Rewire I won't be surprised to see future versions of other DAWs doing the same.
But I don't think I'll ReWire again now that I own R11 Lite as I've got plenty of paid and free RE'S that make the rather modest R11 lite worthwhile.

Why DAW need dropped rewire?
Why remove what works well? Line6 was deleted at 9, rebirth input was removed at 10, rewire was removed at 11. What will be deleted at 12?
Why need to unmotionally cut compatibility with legacy?

Somewhere on here they said it was making other changes difficult or something.
Line6 and Rebirth were both licensing/legal things.
In 12 I think they are going to delete us, the users. We're the biggest cause of problems in the product, what with our requests for improvements and support tickets.
Aaa. Just like they killed Balance. Rewards was dead before it even started walking.

Ok, line6 licensing, but rb input isnt rebirt and no one roland should care about the presence of this legacy input device on board.
Dropping a rewire is like a marketing decision to promote a RRP. Although I think that the more opportunities a user has, the more he likes the product.
