Selig Gain, Ozone Elements - more than I need in most cases!

hello Selig!
a question ... why do you put the gain at the beginning of the chain? And up to what levels do you take the Gain (RMS and Peak, I try to make them inside ±18 dbfs and ±6 dbfs) to set those values do you add it at the beginning?? I ask you because I know that you are an expert in mastering and I am a beginner.
