Reason 11.2 is here!
The new player isn't my cup of tea, but I'm very happy with the Rack MIDI out. I also appreciate MIDI drag and drop from Redrum/Dr OctoRex/Matrix. But it's also needed for player devices like Drum Sequencer, PolyStep Sequencer, etc. Because trying to automate pattern changes and such in another DAW is a frustrating headache.
Been playing with the Beat Map - I love it!
I look forward to seeing what the manual says about it, and I'd gleefully read a blog post by Buddard or RS, just talking a bit about what's going on behind the map - though I do understand that the appeal of controlling beats by an arbitrary map graphic is that you *don't* know what's going on

Surely the density knobs are primarily responsible for that! I meant do the peaks and valleys represented on the map correspond to anything.Loque wrote: ↑20 Feb 2020The maps locator modulates the density AFAIU.manisnotabird wrote: ↑20 Feb 2020Do the features on the topographical map have any relationship to the drum groove created, or are they totally arbitrary eye candy?

No it’s a placeholder device to allow player creation (previously you couldn’t drag a player in without a device being there first). You can drag a Kong or whatever over the ID8 until it turns orange to replace it, or just start with the Kong/etc and add Beatmap after. Same number of clicks I guess!carllackey wrote: ↑20 Feb 2020why does an id8 get added on when i load the beatmapper? do you have to use only the id8?
Yea, they belong to each generator. Did not get yet which is one, but i recognized a specific "level" is for a specific generator.manisnotabird wrote: ↑20 Feb 2020Surely the density knobs are primarily responsible for that! These features are a consequence of us "whiners". And we will whine about VST hosting in the Rack Plugin and VST midi out (RRP and Standalone).
You're welcome!

In Reason DAW you can use the Send to Track button above Beat Map to render everything between the L and R locators in the main sequencer.
In the Rack Plugin it depends on the host DAW, if it's able to bounce MIDI from a plugin or at least record in realtime onto a MIDI track.
high ho all the vsts i want arnt in the cheap upgrade, 2 weeks wages and 4weeks on 1/2 rations and a crack habit,
you know i thought id say the power of music but im saying the power of drugs and i think thats coming from glaxo cline who seem to buy docters as an afterthought, still i presume the full version is the same price{120 pounds odd} again after upgrading to the cheap version as im going to do this in 2 stages, and cancell 1/2 a dozen crack parties i just need more gear shit whatever to keep up with my girls who seem to waltz in with a couple of hundred quid whenever they want or completely nothing cept heroin withdrawls on a bad day,The dam timing of the release, im in the middle of an organized spending spree and this just messes my whiskers.Let alone put 5 girls in a dodgy temper.

Not even gonna ask how you ended up in Vietnam from Boise, but i'm betting it's a long story lol. I've been to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and SIngapore in that neck of the world myself during my active duty flying days. Culture shock for sure, but I enjoyed every minute of it all the same. I landed in the Coeur d'Alene area a few years back after I had all I could take of the east coast. Never been happier in God's country, and the beauty of the area knocks me out every single day.challism wrote: ↑20 Feb 2020I was born and raised in Boise. So it's great to see another user here from Idaho. I've been living in Vietnam for the past 7 years, but Idaho is still USA home. Anyway, I had to give a shout out to you, since there are only a bit over a million of us on the planet. You are living in God's country, my friend! Cheers!Social Exodus wrote: ↑20 Feb 2020These threads are massively entertaining from my cheap seats here in northern Idaho.
Now if we can get a third Idahoan, we can start a clan.

By the way, I bet that VSTs will never be hosted in the RRP.
Do you think it's worth that price?

Had Reason 11 initially released with AU support, midi out, and the new Player, I most likely would have upgraded. I really hate this patchwork release process they've adopted and I just have to wonder if it's like an actual strategic thing mandated by the new CEO or if it REALLY is just that they ran out of time and couldn't fit everything in. 11.2 comes just 5 months after the initial R11 release. They could have waited. Could have released R11 with a bigger bang. Probably fiscal year shenanigans.
Anyway, I'm gonna wait for R12. I figure rack resizing will finally arrive (in the reason rack plugin only), cuz they'll have to have something "big" for all the R11er's to upgrade, right?

Omg... TAB is back !!!! (had a hard time coming from reason only hitting tab in studio one).
Not a Logic user but I was happy to see Ryan take a quick moment to point out that Ableton is missing a feature -- MIDI CC between plugins -- that Logic provides.
To me it was also meant as a reminder to everyone who uses music software that nothing, as of 2020, does everything.
Reason -- DAW or plugin -- does quite a bit more than most.
